I have noticed this myself when I practice. In fact, I’ve started welding miscellaneous crap to my practice board instead of just running beads on flat metal.

Anyone ever given themselves arc eye? Pretty unpleasant. Did that to myself yesterday for the first time by accidentally flashing myself a few times.

For those that don’t know, you basically give your eyeball a sunburn.

That’s what I’ve been doing. That and wearing sunglasses. Everything I’ve read is just like “suck it up and wait it out.” And there’s not much that helps it too much

Thanks man! This new table has absolutely made my life easier getting this kind of stuff squared up properly. And the drill you suggested, I went and bought one. It notches 100% faster than my previous setup. I'd say pretty much all your suggestions have helped me thus far.

I have a coworker who used to be a welder and he mentioned potatoes in the eye but I didn’t quite get the reference until now!

Yikes, that's horrible. I guess I got lucky because it's only in my right eye somehow, and I could feel it setting in about 8pm last night. Did some google fu and figured out what it was. It reminds me of the day after I got OC sprayed. My eye is just gritty and uncomfortable as hell.

Raw Potato slices work wonders . They seem to draw out the pain

I am Curious just what color are your eyes??

I am guessing you don`t wear Safety Glasses when welding that should keep it from happening.

My eyes look fine, and the discomfort isn't too bad which is why I think I just got a mild case of it. I don't wear safety glasses when I'm not cutting/grinding but I'm certainly going to start. I did this to myself from getting stuff lined up, squeezing my eyes shut and tacking it in place and accidentally opened them early a couple times.

Worst part is I knew the clear glasses would block the UV rays but just wasn't wearing them because they're scratched up.

I buy Safety Glasses by the box .

Once they get scratched they get tossed .

I find the best way to clean them is run them in running water first to get the fine grit off if not they just scratch

Then I use the Alcohol wipes .

Safety Glasses have gotten so much better for being comfortable since my youth

Do you not have an auto shield?
I was skeptical at first and didn't trust mine but after turning slightly away and seeing it go dark instantly, I'm more comfortable with it now.
Best part is I can see stuff just fine through it undarkened so there's no blind arc starting

This was with no helmet on at all :anonymous: I find it a lot easier to get stuff fit and tacked into place with no shield on. Just easier to get everything lined up, especially in confined spaces.

But yes I have an auto darkening that is the absolute tits
