HOOD RUST?!

Agreed. My old Tundra spent 17 years in the Arizona sun, day in and day out. 15 of those years were down in Maricopa County. No reprieve from the sun down there.

A simple wash would have the paint shining.

This was one of the front diff washers. No photoshop, just a simple wipe with a rag.

I feel bad for y'all that live in the rusty parts of this country. Glad it isn't me or my truck!

2016 tacoma trd offroad... starting to see small rust bubble on the same hood area. 32k miles. Ill talk to the dealer...

 

GL getting it covered.

I got a brand new hood no questions asked!

 

My 2018 has the same issue. Same spot too. Hasn’t reached to the passenger side but the driver side paint has already bubbled up and flaked off. It is black so I do not believe the color has anything to do with it. Dealer I brought it from said it’s not covered under rust warranty unless it corrodes away. It’s just surface rust at this point.

 

Take it back to the dealer and complain. It's worth a shot to see if they will do anything for you. Truck ever had paint work done by a third party?

 

Meh don’t care enough to sit and deal with corporate bs if I can fix it myself. Dealer told me they would give me matched touch up paint but have yet to hear back from them. Took care of it with black touch up I had left from another car. Atleast I know it was stripped down to bare metal and not some wack touch up job just to get me out the door.

 

This is also happening to my 2017 Tacoma, I had it inspected by a private body shop, they said bad steel. It’s not paint, its rusting out! In his 30 years he has never seen such a young vehicle with a hood rusted out. I already brought it to the dealer requesting a new hood, they said they have to call toyota and will get back to me, I will give them to week and Ill be right down at the service dept again.

Update-Toyota is replacing the hood for me. There’s a 5 year unlimited mile warranty on corrosion, I am at 4 years and 11month! Anyone owning a 2017 Tacoma may want to check their hood. My hood looked exactly like the above pictures.
