Rear Doors won't unlock

The rear doors won't unlock from the inside unless I push the unlock button from up front.

For example, I pull in my garage, stop, and pull the driver's side inside door handle and the door opens. Now: my rear locks won't open at all unless I manually unlock all the doors with the unlock button on the driver's side.

I have a MANUAL TRANSMISSION and do not see any guidance in the Toyota manual. This would be a disaster with kids in the back if they can't open the rear doors in an emergency and I am somehow not able to unlock the doors from up front.

Help please. Is this a dealer visit to set it up?

Its by design so your kids don't accidentally open the doors while driving.

You can change this in the vehicle customization screen, but your only options are to not have it auto-lock at speed like it does by default.

I believe all doors unlock anyways if airbags deploy but not sure.

Did you check the position of the kids lock switch inside the rear doors? Down disabled the unlock function.15529434402912327984799127265236.jpg

Child locks in rear?...should be up. I do know they have other options in apps setting too you can adjust.

FYI guys its not the child lock that fully disables the interior door handles.

Hes talking about like when the car is locked with the front doors you can pull the handle and that one motion unlocks them.

On the rear handles you have to unlock them separately from the handles by either physically moving the little "lock button" or by hitting the unlock switch.

Only reason I know this at all is it was a weird quirk pointed out to me by my rear passenger on a road trip. I imagine its by design, for what purpose?? who knows but my guess is its a kid feature so they don't accidentally open doors when moving.

Happened to me yesterday as well. Was already telling my wife I should get a 2020 Taco OR to fix this. Then I found the switch. Oh well!

I read the doors dont unlock from the inside, not all doors unlocking from the outside. From inside is the child safety lock.

For all to unlock from the outside door handle is a setting in the head unit.

Child safety locks are both unlocked; switch UP.

    Lemme check the head unit.

I see nothing in the head unit about locks at all. Maybe the use of the head unit options is for the auto transmission folks only . . . . ??

OK, HOW did you get there? Are you an auto transmission ??? It appears you have an auto.

It’s under vehicle customization on the HU. Should be on the last page.

AAHHHHHHH. YES. VEHICLE MUST on or key must be in ACC position to have the VEHICLE CUSTOMIZATION button show up!! That's weird.

OK, my current settings. ALL my boxes are NOW checked although washed-out in the crappy pic. I don't know which one will allow me to have the rear doors unlock when I open my drivers side door. I have a suspicion that none of them will solve my problem.

Might be different with a manual, mine are also set to lock and unlock when shifting in and out of Park.

Even if you set it to unlock all doors based upon the driver's door opening.....If you open the driver's door before turning off the engine, the other doors won't unlock.
If you turn off the engine 1st, then open the driver's door, then the other doors will all unlock.

Nice feature. The manuals do not do that.
