Sounds about right. I’d rather fly more often and spend less time doing the other assignments. “Boring” airframes for the win!

How much hands on flying do you guys do after takeoff and climb out? I’ll admit to being jealous every time I’m strapped in the cockpit for hours and need to take a piss or stretch.

It’s like trying to use a Ferrari for a daily driver. It will be awesome while it’s on the road but the upkeep time and costs will kill you. Taking the minivan everyday will be more likely to get you there and save the Ferrari for the weekend fun.

I hand fly up through 15-20k feet pretty regularly. You can turn on the AP pretty low but there's no requirement to do so. You can hand fly all you want outside RVSM airspace.

Been a while since I've posted in here, or anywhere really. So turns out my son caught the flying bug.......no clue how.

I blame the Navy and youtube, but the USAF decided to give him a hell of an opportunity. Turns out they have a program that pays for a select few JROTC kids to go get their PPL over the summer (in only 8 weeks), that he got selected for last summer.

    UND Solo.jpg

So, PPL knocked out, suddenly he wants to fly with dad (oh boy), but also wants to fly Navy/Marines so he's off to college in Aug for the next 4 yrs and then chase his dreams. Can't say I'm not proud :)

Well, he already has the fighter jock "flow" so he's one step ahead of his peers. :D

I'd say you have good reason to be proud!

Congrats to you and the kid. I am pretty butt hurt though that a high school kid gets to wear a flight suit and we still aren’t allowed to.

    This is awesome news!

You have to teach him how to play crud now so he can be better at it than his peers.

    It's important.

I got kicked out of a bar a few weeks ago for starting a game of crud.

My dad has a great story about teaching Motley Crue how to play on a USO tour stop at Clark AB back in the day.

Ugh, I'm passing up my annual 9 day Caymans dive trip to go take a drive up to the arctic ocean. Anybody dive Inuvik before?

Far a plane that has not been built MD-80 in 20 years I’m amazed at the amount that Delta and American Airlines still have in service......I’m sure there are some variants of the aircraft but damn that alot of airtime on these planes....

Last I heard, American has about 30 MD-80s left in service and they will all be gone by the end of 2019. As far as I know, Delta's MD-88s will be going away (not sure when) and the MD-90s, with their more efficient engines, should stick around a little longer. I don't have good intel to be sure about Delta's fleet, so maybe someone on here could correct me.
