Buzzy Vibration at certain RPM's..read before buying!

Let me know what you find out! I have the exact same problem. Buzzy vibrations in the wheel and pedal that make my hands numb after long drives. Happens between 2000 and 2300 Rpms. I took it to 2 toyota dealerships that told me that its normal but I strongly disagree. I drove my friend's TRD and another at the dealer and they did not have anything close to the vibrations I feel.

I've also escalated the issue as a claim with Toyota. Love the truck but having regrets about the purchase. 35k vehicles should not have this problem!

 

What year and trim are you driving?

 

2017, TRD Off Road with 25k miles on it.

 

Ok, I have found that if I squeeze the steering wheel very hard, I almost don't feel the buzz. It is like the steering column allows for vibration to travel up. It has to be the exhaust coming up. Having said that, that when it is buzzing, when I hit a bump it changes the buzz. So the bump travels up steering column. So it may be two things...exhaust and steering column being sensitive.

Still testing. Next is to get a "Oven Glove" and put my hand on the exhaust at 3000rpm to actually feel the buzz.

 

Great detective work haha! Let me know what you find out. I'm waiting for Toyota Corporate to call me back about my claim. Will keep you all updated about that too.

 

With the steering column coming into play, maybe that is why a lot of people don't feel it because they have upgraded to large knobby tires which will produce its own buzz. Then if the tires are out of balance, which I have read alot about that, then their steering wheel is shaking and they just can't feel it and have the problem but don't know it.

 

That could be the reason, but the odd thing is, when I drove my friend's TRD Pro and TRD Off Roads' they did not have the vibration. You could feel the engine but was very subtle.

 

Any 2018 owners with the pedal vibration?

Yes my 2018 SR5 DCSB has this vibration, only at high
way speeds that I’ve noticed it, it’ll go away if I give it more throttle or let off, not sure whether it’s exhaust resonance related since I have a TRD cat back or engine / transmission mounts or something else. Dealer has already replaced the driveshaft and checked the rear drums for warping however I knew all along it wasn’t brake related.

They found that my transmission was a 1/2 quart low.

3 of the 4 2019 Tacoma DC I've test driven had off alignments and steering wheel vibration including the one they ordered for me. I'm super annoyed b/c the issue isn't consistent, and not all of them have it. The 2016 Quicksand I test drove was perfect, no steering wheel vibration at highway speed and great alignment. I'm a little more flexible on the alignment because that can be fixed. Vibrations can be a nightmare to track down. And at this point I know they're just dying to get me to sign the paperwork which I won't until this BS is gone. I'm not committing to 5 years of payments to have some nonsense from the word go. Because once I take ownership of it - then I'm fighting Toyota and that won't be fun at all. They'll make up any BS to get out of fixing it or diagnosing it.

 

Have you driven a DCLB? Some say those vibrate too, but much less.

 

Unfortunately no I have not driven the long beds. Just because it was never a consideration.

 

I have the accelerator buzz in my 2019 long bed but no steering wheel buzz. Probably why Toyota added radar cruise control in 2018. Can’t feel it if your foot isn’t on the pedal.

 

Maybe the new Ranger will prompt Toy to fix this. Sad.

 

Not trying to piss in anyone's cheerios but it makes you wonder how anyone drove 50's through late 80's trucks .

 

LOL--back then simpler trucks and people did not drive 100 mile r/t commutes....No emission standards...the Ford F-100 was fine to drive around the farm. Today, people expect leaf springs to be comfortable.

 

So I did a test in park to see if I could duplicate the pedal vibrations while reving (1500-2500 RPMs) the truck in park and neutral and to my surprise they are present! This tells me it’s definitely engine / exhaust resonance related or something with the engine and transmission mounts, still not sure what the rear end vibration is caused by yet but still leaning towards pinion angle.
