1.9% is the promotional rate when you finance through Toyotas finance Dept on certain new vehicles (like 2019 Tacomas), and have a score > 720. You can't get the $1000 cash back if you elect to use the promotional APR, it's either/or.

I calculated both out and for my price and down payment the 1.9% saved me about 300 bucks over the life of the loan.

Nice. I didn't realize they were offering that anywhere in CA.

Would like to think I did pretty good considering my trade-in was a 2005 Honda crv with 126k miles and everything wrong with it.. Had a $2000 repair quote on it a week earlier, so I opted for a new taco instead. Took me two weeks to get down to this price. Also had to use truecar which helped A LOT, wish I found it sooner. Got the 1.9% interest rate and put 3k down. Didn't sign until I was shown the invoice for the car.

pfly12: While it looks like a great deal, I'm confused. There's a missing trail of breadcrumbs between those 2 sheets. Can you post a photo of the Monroney sticker (official window sticker)?
And there's a $995 pre-delivery charge, a $1100 administrative fee, and a $1060 processing fee=$3155 in fees? That seems excessive. And how'd they get from 36716 to 40481...$3765 of dealer-installed options? The monroney sticker should itemize them.

The only thing added on the monroney is BS ~$1897 charge for nitrogen filled tires and permaplate protection w three year warranty, etc. $299 floor mats.

MSRP was $37,225, plus $1060 delivery fee.

OK, thanks. So the only "tangible" thing they added was floor mats. So 37225+1060+299=38584 as the true MSRP, and 32881+995 "processing fee" as your cost before TTL=$33876. That makes 12.2% off MSRP. Nice deal!
Also nice that you found one not bloated with $500-2500 in dealer-installed options that you don't want.

Can you elaborate on: "Also had to use truecar which helped A LOT, wish I found it sooner."
I'm not finding truecar pricing to be any help at all, and nowhere close to the 12.2% discount from MSRP that you got. So I'd be interested to learn the way you used it to your advantage.

It was one of only a few white OR DCLBs in the state, so I was very lucky they had what I wanted on their lot.

I spent about two weeks going back and forth to dealers and trying to haggle prices to what I researched were reasonable and in line with invoice prices and regulars fees and all that and none would budge and it was a huge PITA. The info is out there and they still wanted to screw me over on the price, even after printing out the kbb, and other info I found and bringing it with me. They also wanted to give me way less for my trade in. I eventually found true car and made an account with just email phone and name, submitted a quote request to a few dealers in the area with one click (this is starting to sound like an ad) for the year make and model I wanted. Within minutes they were calling and emailing me with the price I wanted. They sent itemized quotes to my email, this gave me the ability to print it out and take it to other dealerships for them to match or beat. But I really didn't have to do this, and from the research I've done on true car there isn't really much room for them to go down once you get a quote from true car because it is legitimately a low or fair price. I paired this with the 1.9% financing incentive available in the southeast region during March and pulled the trigger. Submitting quote requests to multiple dealers at a time made them want to compete to push volume, rather than sticking a sales guy on you who just wants to make commission. Apparently true car charges dealerships $350 per lead, so they're definitely still making money if they're willing to partner and pat for that.

Hi All! First post here but have been combing through threads for the last month or so. Haven't purchased yet, but here is the price that my dealer gave me via email. Looking for thoughts on whether anyone thinks I can squeeze more and/or how much more? Thanks in advance!

2019 DCSB, TRD OR, AT, Cement. Includes Premium and Tech, All-weather matts/Door sill protector, door edge guard, mudguards, predator steps, tailgate emblem.

    MSRP: $42,635 (From monroney label)
Quote: $37,693 after $1k rebate (Doesn't include TTL or $199 Doc Fee)

Haven't talked financing terms or trade in yet.

Lots of room to go lower, do you even want the tech package?

Good to know. I've read through these threads but with so many different variations on the Taco it's hard for me to tell. How much lower do you think? I do want the premium package and tech package.

Yeah, definitely did. Looks like you got a great deal. I'm going to keep working on this dealer and a few others and see what I come up with.

That's the same configuration I'm interested in (TRD OR (DC, SB, AT, AWD) with tech and premium). And I don't want any options beyond that, which is turning out to be a problem.

MSRP on that combo is 36615 for base vehicle + 3660 for prem+tech, + destination 1095 (that may be a bit different in your area) = $41370 MSRP. (Invoice for the same is $38264.)

I'm finding the same problem of dealers loading this model with bloatware I don't want. For your quote, they have added 42635-41370=$1265 in dealer-installed bloatware.

Their offer of 37693 is 11.6% off the MSRP of the bloatware-laden vehicle. Now if you want all the dealer-installed options, that's actually a nice discount.

But if you place no value in the bloatware, meaning your MSRP reference point is 41370, then their offer is 8.9% off MSRP.

If you place *some* value on the bloatware, your discount is somewhere in the 8.9-11.6% range. You'd have to gauge that on how you value the dealer installed options.

To get the equivalent 11.6% discount while valuing the bloatware at zero, they'd need to sell you the vehicle (before TTL, doc) for $36571 ($1122 below where they are now).

So that's probably a reasonable target. It's only the 19th of the month, and some dealer might be more willing to get to that number closer to the end of the month (but that all depends on dealer by dealer sales targets)

    Good luck!

PS I generally include all but $50 of the doc fee as added profit in the front end of the calculation. But your doc fees in your area are relatively low to start with so that's not much of an impact (doc fees are $450-500 in my area, fixed per toyota dealer, regardless of vehicle)

Definitely appreciate your reply. Just to clarify, the bloatware options were added by the manufacturer in this case and not the dealer. They are all included in the monroney. There isn't any dealer added items. I do like some of the options added but don't put much value on some of the others. I haven't been able to find this truck with both packages without a decent amount of options added from the manufacturer. I haven't seen the invoice for this specific truck yet but I'm sure I'm getting close to it. The internet is telling me the dealer has $732 in holdback but I'm not sure how accurate that is. This is also a high volume dealer, so I'm sure they get more incentives. Anyway, I'm going to keep on them and see what I can get them down to.

P.S. I did sell cars for about three years at a high volume dealer so I think of myself as decently savvy when it comes to negotiating and know what tricks the dealers pull. One thing that I have seen is when a dealer will actually white out parts of an invoice and make another copy to show prospects. This way you don't actually get to see all of the information and know what their holdback is. Just FYI.

Just put the deposit down to pick up my 2019 this weekend. Will be my first new vehicle and I’m very excited.

I used the internet shopping method found on here and am very happy with what I paid. MSRP was 39267 on a 2019 superwhite TRD Offroad 4x4 DCLB with technology package mudguards and floor mats (I wanted as close to no accessories as I could find but this was still a better price than I was quoted on ones with less)

I paid 38,000 OTD including TTL (Registration is nearly 700 here in AZ)

Which put the sale price right at 35k even, or 34k with the 1k rebate.

I've always wondered, and maybe with your experience you can answer, how does the salesperson get compensated on new car sales (especially the deals that end up way under invoice and holdback, and have trade-in considerations and financing kickbacks, etc)? Is their cut from profit margin, a fixed percent of the selling price of the new vehicle based on the final paperwork, or something else? Does the salesperson ever end up getting nothing from a sale?
