Wow, like many of the others here - I don't know you but am *so* very glad you and the dogs are ok! And, you have an amazing attitude about it. I barely survived a rollover accident at a high rate of speed in my first truck ('83 Chevy Silverado - I was young and stupid - so seeing your pics really hit home to me even though it wasn't a roll over. My chevy was the size of a VW bug when it was over with.
I hope Toyota catches a clue - this is marketing gold I should think. And - Thank you for adopting/rescuing! Beautiful dogs!!! Best of luck in the future.

Thank you everyone. No one is happier about the outcome than myself, well my lovely wife is pretty stoked too and the kids are glad their bowls are still full every day. I have a cool life and I’m glad to continue it. It’s even better when I meet new friends like yourselves. The family appreciates all of your kind words.

Glad you're alright. Safety the reason we decided to plunk down for a new 3rd gen when shopping, and looks like it was a good decision.

However, curse you for getting that song stuck in my head. :D

Yes. Compared to the ‘16, the mapping is much improved. Much less jumping from 6th to 4th on a gentle grade at highway speeds. It feels smoother when power is applied and when it does downshift in cruise control. Much quieter and less jarring too. The seats are also a bit more comfy. Looking forward to seeing if the off road performance is any different come spring.

Yup. My taco saved me when I hit some black ice in a highly congested area on the freeway. Truck turned about 45 degrees instantly going about 60. VSC kicked in and got it straight no problem. About 10 yrs ago, same thing happened to me in a Monte Carlo...skid out and rolled 3-4 times into oncoming traffic on the freeway. Everybody likes to talk about going back to simple trucks without all the tech...sounds like a good idea until the tech saves your life. OP would be in a box in an old CJ or like.

Sorry man. Mom used to sing it to us in the car as kids driving around Southern California in the 60’s. When I bought the ‘16 I knew I wanted the blue and was willing to do whatever it took to get the color if I was going to spend 40 grand.

I remember driving up into the hills above Fort Collins after picking it up and calling my sister to tell her about my new and very expensive bluetooth phone adapter. We talked about our mom Jackie as we always do and it struck me. Now I’m regrouping and trying to figure out this ones name. USSJAKI? DOG DAD? PLOWED? Lots of ideas going around.

Maybe I am blind, but where did the hood go?
If I am picturing this right in my head, I don't want to think what would happen if driving in a sedan or sports car with the nose about 2 feet lower than the Tacoma...

The hood separated into 2 pieces. The skin was pealed off and folded in half then came through the windshield and eventually ended up in the road in front of us. The under structure did pretty much the same thing yet remained inside the cab. I’m assuming the airbags helped keep it out of my skull or Bob’s lap.

The intake and bottom end were both sheared off the motor. The cross member was pushed back and forced sideways towards my feet. I think I have video of all that and the missing 2 1/2 feet of taco.

The left front and right rear tires were fine and now live on the new truck. The left front was damaged by the plow and right rear was shredded by the semi along with the wheel.

The bed left impact marks on both sides of the cab yet the topper was fine except for some bending of the window frames where the slider locks let go and they slammed forward, but nothing I can’t straighten with my hand break, hopefully.

So biggest direct injury you received was generally hood related? (Which they are generally carefully designed to avoid entering the cabin). Toyota should probably take a look at those hood hinges and attachments. On the truck's driver side pillar looks like maybe paint scraping from the hood.

Penetration or crushing into the cabin pedal area any?

Kinda hard to say for sure but I suspect it was some combination of hood, windshield, airbags and the ladder from the plow that hit me in the face. Bob pushing me forward into the steering wheel could have something to do with my ribs.

No lower penetration that I saw but I didn’t crawl into the foot box to look. When I pulled out the mats, I saw minimal deformation of the floor and firewall, but again, I wasn’t in a position to dig in. There was no way to see anything from the motor bay as it was crushed flat and the engine forced askew.

All that said, I’m not a engineer and I could have easily missed some critical cues.

I think I reached the folks in Toyota marketing through the CS department today. I’ll let you know what happens.
