nada....maybe a license plate one day & BA bumpers
checking in at $43/yr here in oregon
we pay 2 years at a time...keeps bureaucracy & costs down (good for citizen not the govt acting as a business)
if you buy a car brand new you have the option to pay 4 years at once here in oregon at $160ish for the 4 years
I picked up a 2018 rav4 in nov 2018 & did the 4 year reg payment at once...my plates have '22 stickers...love not having to deal with that tax crap for FOUR years!
they call it registration when really its just another tax one citizen subjects onto a fellow citizen in order to advance their financial agenda/obligations

I do understand as of Jan 1 the cost went up to roughly $110 for 2 years here in oregon, so the kali effect is occurring
still hella cheap compared to kali

True, I had to pay $630 out of pocket to get a tag for my wife's A4 because we bought it out of state and they didn't collect the tax. The big difference is dealers in the state collect the valorum tax, but do not collect additional sales/local taxes like they used to. Now, at least they only bend you over once at the sale, and not at the sale and every year afterwards.

Against immigrating across state lines too, hmmm. I’m happy for you that those didn’t reject your family from immigrating to Oregon.

yeah, oregon is pretty great but they do have their gotchas. property taxes are reasonable but if you did not squander your younger earnings on truck accessories :crapstorm:and invested it,
when you retire to live off the capital gains you find out oregon taxes long term cap gains as ordinary income!. and that gets close to 10% real quick. oregon is a good place to be poor.
Fed does not even tax the first 40K of long term cap gains (sorta)..and then a reduced rate after that.

i was thinking of moving across the border to WA and so, before i bought a truck, i checked out "use tax" on the truck if i do that.
turns out our trucks mostly just squeak under the payload limit...otherwise you have to pay WA sales tax on FMV (about 10% iirc) when you move into that state since you didn't pay any in oregon.
below explains it. they target anything over a real light truck after 90 days. many "light trucks" pay thru the nose...but not ours. haul capacity not so great if you don't need it.
general rule: there is no free lunch.

edit: when researching i only considered access cab re 1500 payload limit. you have to calculate your payload by WA definition for each vehicle. they are happy to do it for you :)

    this says it better:
    Moving to Washington new residents
    • If you purchased a "private motor vehicle" in another state more than 90 days before moving here, you do not owe Washington's use tax. RCW 82.12.0251(3).
Note: A "private motor vehicle" is an individually owned motor vehicle used for the personal transportation of the owner, with a load capacity of 1500 pounds or less.
Pickup trucks with a load capacity greater than 1500 pounds, recreational vehicles, watercraft and trailers do not qualify for this exemption.

    • If you purchased a personal vehicle in another state within 90 days of moving here, you owe use tax when you register and license it.
Note: If you paid sales tax and used the vehicle in another state, you may apply that tax against the Washington use tax you owe. RCW 82.12.035.

    Real cheap for most guys on here;

my diesel last year was over $900 IIRC

Mustang is 460, Corvette is roughly 370, Tacoma was 70 or 80, other Corvette is only 210 so over 1100 this year in registration

In AK I paid $170 for 2 years. I just did my registration for NE plates and paid $529.10 for one year. $47 was actual registration and the remaining is tax. Woof.

    Not quite right for everyone.
I was already skilled, had income, a wife, and a daughter. I volunteered for God & Country, took a pay cut, had NO bonuses or incentives, did not always have housing (got an allowance to help w/ rent), but I did come out after 11 years w/ more skills.
When I'm "thanked" - I reply with "No need to thank me - it was my HONOR to serve".

My military time does help me now with my vehicle registration costs though. My Tacoma tabs cost me one dollar ($1) if I ask the state to mail them to me. It cost me $0 if I go in to the office for them. That's how well GA treats those w/ disabled plates.
USAA insurance isn't quite as agreeable.

Yep youre probably right on that. I know multiple people that have car collections that do that. My dad has been a dealer for 40 years and has lots of friends that are collectors.

Oh and mine is $75 ish per year and $25 for state inspection.

You and 4x4runner are the minority and I applaud your reasons. There may be a lot more like you in the tier 1 & 2 type units but still the minority I believe from my experience.

I was in Colorado springs for a few years so I know what you mean. I had a tundra where the registration was around 500-600 bucks, that's with a discount for military. I chose to keep my truck registered in Tennessee where my registration was like $40/year if I remember correctly.

No beach but Colorado is rewarded with some of the best 4 wheeling in the country within a short drive. I loved my time there.
