OP: That can be fixed fairly easily.
Buy the part that is missing. Buy a piece of 1/8" steel that is larger than the hole in the door.
Cut the steel such that it fits over the "gaping wound" from the inside with enough overlap to drill and bolt the two parts together. Or weld, if you want to go that route.
Mark the hole you will need to cut in the metal to align the new part.
Remove the new piece of metal from the door and cut the hole(s) according to markings.
Bolt or weld it all together and brush paint it with something that doesn't stand out like a sore thumb.

Ya not sure what people are thinking when they just let the door swing freely, I’m always nervous something like this will happen. But ya I do have access to a welder and friends that can weld, so may try that rout and just take the door off and attach a small piece of metal land reattach the door check to that and see how it works. Thank you for the tips!

No damage that I have seen, panels all line up and no paint or chips anywhere on side panel or door, I was super surprised to see this is the only damage I could find.

Bet you what happened is a previous owner lost control of the door in heavy wind, tore it a bit, and after that, it was flexing every time he opened or closed the door and eventually metal fatigue got the better of it.

It happens. Fix it properly, or it will reduce the value of your truck big time. First thing a buyer does is open the door. Same thing happened to mine years ago.
