Exactly. AT Tacos with 5.29 gears on stock tire diameters will have only slightly lower gearing that a stock MT.

Every time I read 5.29, even 4.30, it seems shocking when 3.77s are big ratios on full size trucks.

So 4.3’s in the AT would be pointless?

It depends what you want to run for tires?

One small thing to note is that the AT 1st gear is 3.60 versus 3.98 for the MT. If towing / wheeling hard, there is going to be a lot of heat in the ATF to get going with stock gearing.

    I love this table:

Also if you have a non TRD OR / PRO with auto, you have the 8" rear end (instead of 8.75") which people seem to be exploding on the 3rd gens if they are running them hard

Not pointless per se but if you’re spending the money to get gears and install them then maybe 4.88s would be a better payoff.

If someone wants to wreck a manual in a way that preserves the gears, it might be cheaper that way.

Of course no one can total a silver TRD sport in the front either to leave passenger rear flare intact for me to buy. So hoping for a wrecked manual is slim too.

4.88s with that tire diameter are still going to be higher geared than the MT. 5.29s might put you at the same overall? I'm swinging about 2,000rpm at 60mph. Not bad, IMHO.

Runs perfect - but some say it is "over geared." I went to 4.88 to pull a popup camper which weighs about 1700 lbs loaded. Did not want to increase tire size to defeat gearing ratio. Not my thing but lots go 33's up to 35's. Wish the Mother Ship had build options for the AT. Probably would have gone 4.56 and been happy. The 3.91's just don't cut it. I'll be adding 6112 and 5160 suspension as soon as the weather allows me to work in the garage. The stock OR suspension is okay but the upgrade will complete my list of mods. I hope :)

as for rpm at speed - 65 is 2000 and each 5 mph increase results in 250 rpm increase --75 mph is 2500.

I received my tune yesterday. Today I installed the 87 base tune on my 04B03 ECU. I tried downloading the performance tune and the downloader gave an "error downloading file".

I'd very much like to try the performance tune. Also, what is the FOB tune and how does Gearlock work? Sorry if this has already been discussed...there are 2100 pages on this thread.

On the same note, I can't download ANYTHING BUT...the 04B03-at 87 base tune.

The performance tune is not available yet for 04B03 yet. The FOB tune is for manual transmissions. The gearlock works by shifting into S mode, and pressing the ETC button.

Removed the air box while putting on the lift kit recently for easier access. Probably didn’t snug it back on.

Looks like only options for 3rd gen are 4.3, 4.88 or 5.29.

I do run some speed on the trails and desert and can hit 70-80mph offroad

Probably be safer with 4.3’s and being OVtuned huh?

    Plus 4.56.

Some do! I know what would happen if I tried.

4.3 and OVT sure does feel nice. Top gear at highway speeds has plenty of gitty up.

Interesting... even with 4.88's you are still geared a bit higher than a stock M/T in 6th gear.

Don't you love how it'll just go in 6th with a slight increase in throttle.. and the 3rd gear on-ramp shenanigans :) - LET IT EAT
