Wanted to get this for my wife but it's too damn expensive right now. Maybe 1 more year.

My rule Chad, and this is no BS, and if they want to play they will, tell them you are ready right now and only if you knock 15% off that MSRP.

$35,140 or I walk. Also, Go at the end of the month. Like I mean the last day of the month. But the BEST time to buy are the ends of the month in October, November and December or Presidents Day weekend. For some reason that is the killer sale. And again, Presidents Day Weekend after 4 pm on the last day of the sale.

That's when I buy. It's 15% or nothing. I never need a new car that bad.

That's great advice, thank you! We obviously need a much larger more expensive vehicle really bad.

That's BS price right there Chad. I paid for that for my 4Runner Off Road Premium with KDSS and sliding rear deck. For a SR5 Premium it should be $37-$39k max!

He is right about the end of the month. They want to meet that sales quote. We bought one for the wife a bit ago now but we paid 33,500 or 34,500 for a 2016 Trail premium. Only had 120 miles. But it wasnt in my hometown. I noticed your looking in Austin. Autotrader is how I found all of mine. I would be ready to drive.

On a side note, cant wait to see you again at Jambo!!

Agreed, I bought mine end of September when they were bringing in the '19 and pushing the '18 off the lots. I saved about $3k off the sticker price.

Unfortunately for you, right now SUV sales are higher than pickup trucks and are approaching car sales levels. Seems everyone wants a SUV. Add to that, it's a Toyota. And a body on frame. All things they will try to tell you to use why he can't drop the price. Just say sorry, I will check elsewhere. I would add, Texas as you know is a big state and there are a lot of Toyota dealers in it.

I have even gone as far as photoshopping a faked quote using one dealerships logo with some of the key info redacted and just enough not to say "Look, I like your dealership, I want to buy from your dealership but my wife sent a request for a quote to this guy and this is what they came back with. All I want you to do is give me your best price in writing so I can take it home with me right now, so when I come back the price isn't different tomorrow".

Some will fall for it. Some wont. If they do, now you have a legitimate quote you can take to another dealer. Then you just say I want you to beat this price and put it writing. If they do, take that back to the first guy. It's a game of ping pong at that point. Yes, it is a lot of work, but if you can save 2 grand then what's that come out to per hour for your time?

Not sure if you subscribe to Consumer Reports? They have a service called Build & Buy. Basically, for every regional are/zip code dealers will agree to the lowest possible price for vehicles. Maybe their sales are down and they need to bring them up, whatever, they are out there. So you pay a small fee, I think it was $14 bucks, on top of my yearly subscription, and you select the car and then up to 3 dealers in your area you are willing to work with. There is no commitment except to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I did this for my 2010 Honda Crosstour. I filled it out here at work, and left work, 30 minutes later I had three dealers dropping prices by $1k each time one called to offer me a deal. I would just say well, that's a great price but dealer #1 just offered $1k less. They would drop. I said sounds good, I will come look at the car. Dealer #3 called and I told them what was happening and he beat both of their prices.

In the end I saved 18% off MSRP.

There is another service called Fighting Chance https://www.fightingchance.com/ it costs more but these tactics are what I described above about the signed quotes. I used information from one of these reports to buy my Tundra new. I knew exactly what I should ask for and even had it written down on a piece of paper. I slid it across the table to the salesman and when he opened it up his eyes popped out and he laughed. I smiled and said thank you for your time and got up from the table and started to walk away. He stopped me. Said he would take it to his manager. Came back and said the same thing, sorry that's too low. I said look, I know you can sell me that truck right now for that price, the question you have to ask yourself is do you want the sale right now with little commission or no commission at all, with the possibility of making up for that with the next sale you make. I don't care about that guy, all I care about is me and if you don't want the sale I am sure there is a dealer in the tri-state area that does.

    I left in the Tundra.

15% off the sticker is the easiest though and you are still leaving them some scraps. It's fair for both of you. The other ways are ruthless so I lose a little sleep. For a night or two.

Yea, I have been told that the end of the model year is good because they have to pay the taxes and insurance on every car on the lot, and last years models are an overhead sucks! That's why they have those end of year clearance sales, but refuse to sell for less in the beginning. Have to go on the last day, after the full salesmen & women have left so all that are left are the hungry ones! Then you swoop in!

So jelly! My dream is to move to the states within the next 5 years or so. I'd love to camp like that on weekends.
