We plan 3 years of life in batteries in this part of the world. Anymore than that is a bonus. I just change them out when they die. No real testing unless it's 3 years or less.

Yes.. absolutely.
Because the lower capacity (aka worn out) battery will draw the other batteries down..

For vehicles I only go 4 max cold kills as well as heat . Though, if you do battery maintenance I am told by a reliable source you can get longer . Since these are from an RV the usage goes from high to nothing to high . It is a buddy of mine and he was a mech for many years and still does it for himself . I just disagree with only replacing one and was curious if it was just my mind set or ..lol

I know people who take a battery that won't power a"dusk to dawn" light through the night and move it to a less demanding led light somewhere else trying to get the last bit of life out of it. I don't have time for all that. The cost difference between a dieing battery and my labor to move it around is not worth moving it. I guess it's what people value their time at. My time starts when I open the box and throw a tester on it. If I get a new one there's 2 hours of travel time on top of the actual labor. That depends on where the box is whether it's 36" up the pole or 12'. Getting a battery 12' up a pole is sometimes a feat in itself (getting it down is easy....gravity works well).

I will change both in my vehicles in the fall.

Yep 2-3 years max with batteries here in the Desert!!!

 

I do that with my trolling motor.
I’ll use it until it won’t go a normal day then switch it to the starter and buy a new deep cycle.
I get years more out of it.

 

I just had bacon, eggs and toast....breakfast for dinner sounded good. I wanted a couple pancakes too but we're out of sugar free syrup.

 

I like to switch stuff up too.

 

I was thinking of going to a bigger/24 volt system but I just don’t see the need with how I fish.
I doubt a fancier / bigger boat is in the future. Actually I was thinking if downsizing if I need a new one and build a long tail.. I pretty much fish 3 protected lakes. That’s it. im kinda a fair weather fisherman.
I do it for fun and relaxing. If I have to fight the wind/ rain/ or a tournament. I stay home..

 

I try to fish as much as poss before Memorial Day Weekend. That’s when we Mainer’s become second class citizens to all the outsiders..

Then I try to fish real early in the morning on weekends and get off the water by noon.

 

I use a battery isolator, no worries about one killing the other or the alternator overcharging.
