Coolant temp sensor

Searching around can't find the answer.. hoping for a quick yay or nay. I'm running an aftermarket temp sensor on my new engine build 09 2trfe for reference. If I don't put the OEM temp sensor back in is this thing gonna freak out and not run right ? I can maybe come up with some contraption but having to source metric fittings is a friggen nightmare. I have the engine out Id really hate to find this out later cause it's a bitch to get at when the engine is in the truck

ECU adjust many things based on coolant temp. I can guarantee your aftermarket temp sensor has a different calibration than the stock sensor. You really do need to reinstall it

 

I wasn't sure if they read from the same location FML what a nightmare this is

 

Are you running an aftermarket ECM or stock? Is this thing boosted?

 

It's stock well it's now bored .20 over with better pistons and rings, but that's not really the point the point is the massive failure that is the OEM lack of gauges, Im trying to get accurate readings so I can better monitor how the engine is performing

 

If you're looking for another spot to get an accurate reading, put a tee in line at the No1 bypass or swap a sensor for the coolant drain cock on the passenger side of block.

 

Oooo that's an idea.. I have an adapter for the head it took 2 hrs to find one cause it's metric to non metric.. the no 1 bypass is plastic so that's not gonna work. But I like that drain idea

 

I was referring to tube at back of it. I’d highly suggest swapping to the metal one

 

There's no tube on the back of the block.. yes I'm not impressed fresh engine hey let's reuse this shitty plastic piece.. I didn't know they'd changed the design to metal. Luckily the auto meter sensor fits into the drain tube. Yes it seals. I removed the tube from the block and filled it up with water to see if the sensor would allow water to pass by the sensor tip. So no need to waste another 2 hours looking for metric fittings

Ya I called the local dealership, theyll have me one tmrw.. super easy to do when the engine is out of the truck. The builder didn't know they made a change so he just cleaned and reused the old pipe cause it didn't have any signs of wear.. I'm not taking chances

 

The OEM oil pressure sender is still attached to the harness it's fused on with dirt lol

I replaced my Air Switching valve about a year ago, I removed it because I have a turbo now.
If you'd like to pick it up, I'd let it go for $70USD + shipping (not sure how much that would be).

It's an autometer unit, my OEM unit is fine, I just need to thread it back in when the engine is in the truck..

 

I've got a magnaflow pro exhaust to go on top along with the Lce pro clutch need this thing back together

 

I have the LCE exhaust and header on my truck. Be prepared, it's loud as fuck. I had a 12" Vibrant resonator welded in to quiet it down enough that I could actually drive it.
