If you want to do your own oil change, you can find a place to do it.
Reason is, for some people not doing own oil change
    - is free, let them do it
    - don't know how, will pay somebody
    - is beneath me to crawl under the truck
    - is leased, fuck it...
In 2 years and 20000+ miles have never took it in for maintenance.

Those reasons from you @jproffer and whomever that person is you quoted their post know nothing about me. None of your reasons work for me.

I'm new here and find the psychology interesting. I'm finding most to be helpful while others engage in "I'm going to demean you and nit pick your business so I can look superior". This is going to be fun!

You forgot the comma after "...engage in". You also need one after "business" since they are two independent clauses joined by a conjunction.

    :duel:;) (welcome aboard)

How can you keep warranty intact if you'd our ow oil change etc.
Can I have my family mechanic do the changes at 5k and 10 k etc. I do not care about the free part, just want to have someone that knows what they are doing. I want my oil and filter changed at 5k. Will this void my warranty if I do not bring the truck to Toyota? My mechanic has been in business for 40 yeas and has around 10 people working for him. I never had one issue with him so I want to have him look after my truck but I donot want to get into a pissing contest with Toyota.

No, you are covered. You are allowed to do your own oil changes and have a mechanic do your oil changes.*

*If you do it wrong, they can void your warranty. Eg You put antifreeze in instead of oil, you overfill it and the engine blows, etc.

Ok understood, I am bypassing my dealership. My mechanic is very good at what he does. Lots of people say he is too expensive, but when I drive my vechile home there are no problems and if there is he makes good on it

How many miles on the taco?
You worry about warranty denial for an oil change and other tacoheads cut, chop, bend, drill, weld the hell out of the truck and no warranty give a shit...
As long as you do it normal without any mistakes no warranty can be denied.
On the other hand, if any dealer would change my oil I could not sleep overnight, have nightmares, break into heavy sweat...

5,000 miles seem a long time for first oil change. My only other new car I purchased for myself went in at 500 miles to remove the breaking in oil they called it, it was a 72 Camero. I guess I am old school. I had the truck around 4 months.
The one thing I worry about is not using the truck enough. My mechanic told me the worst thing you can do is leave a vechile sit. So I am aware of that.

What kind of cheap oil are you putting in, what do u reuse the old filter? Please dont tell me you use a fram (or at least not the cheapest one anyway). I bought oil on sale and a filter n it damn near cost me a about 50. That was a "deal" lol. I will not shop at walmart i refuse. I truly believe every single item they sell is inferior to that at diff stores. I.e. the batch of mobile 1 synthetic that didnt test perfectly or something like that. Still may meet its bottle marking but something is absolutely cheaper about it, i jsut dont trust a giant store that can care less about every aspect of sales besides being the cheapest around.

yea full synthetic is almost 40 - 50 bucks for 5 quarts. oil filter is 6 - 20 bucks. thats anywhere from 60 - 80 just for the parts.

I agree with you that walmart buys off grade stuff for cheap.

You guys should go to the dealer for filters. I buy 10 at a time to get them for around $5 each. I guess every dealership is different though. Here's how it went for me.

M: "How much for a 2nd gen V6 tacoma oil filter?"
    D: "$9.99"
M: "Damn....well...whatever, I'll use em. How many are in a case?"
D: "10...but if you buy the whole case I can give em to you for $4.99 (or something around that)"
M: "....................well.........sign me up for that one then. Sold!"

    I think it's $54 with tax for a case.

I'm guessing if I hadn't brought it up, he would have let me buy one at a time for $10 each, so it's worth asking. If not Amazon has em for about the same, 5 at a time.

Already explained it elsewhere in this thread, Mobil 1 0w-20 and a Toyota filter. Mobil 1 does $12 rebates on a jug several times a year and buy the filters in bulk of 5 or 10.

Fair enough. I just figure if I'm using OE filters, and something goes wrong...especially regarding a filter coming apart and tearing shit up, I have an argument with toyota for repairs...which I probably don't anyway lol...but that's how it plays out in my mind :)

I'm not a fan of Walmart, but I don't believe the Mobil 1 sold there is any different than the Mobil 1 sold anywhere else, at least I haven't seen anything that would lead me to think its any different.
