Does anyone know what the engineers were thinking when they put the plastic vents in the rear wall of the cab?

I am soundproofing and just want to cover them up.

    thanks

Pretty sure all vehicles have this. It’s so your ears don’t pop when somebody closes the door and you’re inside.

Yep. Usually hidden under the bumper covers on cars / SUVs. You can see them flapping away when folks drive their clapped out cars down the road with no bumpers.

I took some foam pipe insulation and opened it up into a U shape and glued the edges to the cab wall above and below the vents. Both ends of the U are open. Seems to be a reasonable reduction in noise while still allowing them to function.

Firstly, it allows cabin ventilation so when you blow air into your car from outside it has a place to go. You can’t blow air into a sealed box. If you cover them up, your defroster will not work as well because the fan will not move as much air against the sealed cabin.

Secondly, so when your 15 air bags go off you don’t get the ‘7 holes bleed’.
