Weld test scheduled for Monday on the stainless mig. Everyone says how easy it is so I’m hoping I pick it up quick

    Take your time !!

Is it a code test ?? Maybe the test to see if you can be taught to pass the code test with a little hands on experience ?

    You will be fine

I prefer 7018 and it has a higher tensile strength than a 60 series rod

I worked construction in high school, and my boss back then told me he got his skin sunburned from the arc light while welding with no shirt on.

I don't weld shirtless..... But I've burned my fore arms many times doing "quick tack jobs" with TIG.

So it wasn’t arc eye, it was a piece of metal in my eye. It wasn’t any better this morning so I went to the doc and they found it. Explains why eye drops and potatoes didn’t do a damn thing for me

I wish that was the case. They got it out, but then had to scrape the rust off with a drill. Doc said the pain is gonna get much worse for the rest of today and then by tomorrow afternoon I’ll be 95% healed

That’s the dumb shit, I always wear eye protection. I guess the metal just found a way in. And normally I’ll feel the metal get in there and I’ll flush it out, but not this time apparently.

Safety glasses do block UV, but I’m unsure to what extent.

If you keep reading along you’ll see it was a rusty piece of metal instead, which just got taken out an hour ago. Shit sucked but at least it’s free.

Just what do you weld that needs 70,000 psi tensile strength as compared to 60,000 ??

May as well use 10018 then

Two electrodes with so very different characteristics and welding techniques

I primarily do structural welding. I prefer the way a 70 series rod burns in and cleans up as opposed to the 60 series whether I'm making big weldments or patching the deck on a tractor it's my rod of choice. Personal preference.
