one of the good reasons to have selectable lighting. The Red LEDs don't attract mosquitos as bad.

Hammock camping is something i've wanted to try for a while now, much better than the cold ground and needing a air mattress to keep you off of it.

i just need mounting points at the back of the cab or something to do what Jeepers do apparently

    083479de10a7ddd988893d6bbef8147b.jpg

and i'm not quite sold on getting a full front and rear bumper for it :bananadead:

    but maybe....

looks like it would be a bit of a cunt to set up.

the problem with hammock camping is the temp outside.

Its harder in the colder temps without a proper under quilt. which for a good quality one is $$$
Hammock camping is no different than any other tent camping though when it comes to price.

Thats on the really cheap side of a hammock. When you start getting into something like Hennessy (which I have) or Warbonnet etc and the higher end brands its no different than comparing a outbound canadian tire tent to a higher end MSR tent.

    How was the set up?
That wheel stand idea is much better. ENO makes those but you could also probably make them yourself if you have a welder or knowa guy

I tried the bed rack idea to use as a second point and it didnt work that great since its a lot of side loading to the bed and actually caused my bed to shift a tiny bit. No where close to as bad as Peter's or other guys who's beds split. Even with stiffeners though one side of my bed has about a 1/8th bigger gap since I side loaded it. I have seen things you can make to put in your hitch which I have considered but material to buld one is at least $100. Basically seems $100 minimum for anything to set up outside of trees, as those eno tire stands are over $140 too. and to make them the material is going to be at least $90 from when I priced it out.
EDIT: I dont even know if you can still buy it as its not in stock anywhere but here and they wont ship to canada. https://www.amazon.com/Eagles-Nest-Outfitters-Roadie-Charcoal/dp/B01B8FOOSY

I will be trying the front bumper once its on. It is a lot sturdier so should be ok. If not though and trees are available a tree set up is 10000x better.

But as I mentioned above to Manfred. I thought it was the same idea just get off the ground and you're good its not that the case.
In the summer ok but any other time basically as soon as temps are bellow 15C its an issue. You'll wake up with a cold back.
There's two-three solutions to this depending on which hammock you have.
    1. Under quilt. will work with pretty much any hammock set up except bottom entry like the original Hennessy hammocks, but if you get a quilt from Jacks R better they make one that works with it.
    2. sleeping pad in your hammock. From what I've heard its incredibly uncomfortable and the pad almost always shifts. and this isn't just a cheap air pad you need you need something with a decent R value no different than if you are on the ground.
    3. This is Hennessy specific since thats what I have. They sell something called 'Super shelter' what it does is give you a second part that hangs under the hammock plus a insulation pad and mylar blanket. The idea is its module and you can fill it will other stuff like clothing or even leaves if thats all you can get around you. Point is it gives you a second area to put insulation and the pad it comes with does attach and stay in place. You can also put a regular sleeping pad (which I've done) under it. I put a Thermarest Neoair all season. Its their second warmest underpad. Only thing warmer on the market that I'm aware of with a 5.2R value is the thermarest neo air xtherm which is $$$$.

A good Asym hammock is what you need to get a decent flat lay. any normal hammock will leave you like a banana and wake up with a sore back. Laying diagonal across them is where you get the flat lay and can actually sleep really comfortably.

The main issue I see with the above hammocks is they could actually ruin your experience and make you think they are all shit.
I wont lie my hammock set up is close to $400 with everyhting all in, super shelter, hennessy explorer deluxe zip hammock etc.
The super shelter alone is $200+, and the issue for me is height. From all my research before I bought mine said the sizing is not accurate for comfort. They'll list them as 6ft or 7ft. And every review I read said if you are 5'10" or taller the 7ft one is the one you need. So that makes it more money.

They did just come out with a new 4season hammock which is basically the older explorer and super shelter all in one so you dont need to carry two different parts but again its $$$ $400 to be exact. https://ca.hennessyhammock.com/products/4season-explorer-xl-zip

I haven't used it but I have heard good reviews.

I love the hammock camping but I wont lie as with anything it has its pros and cons. For one con being colder weather. It can be used in colder weather no doubt but its going to cost you a pretty penny to set up for the colder weather. I checked a shit load of reviews comparing cheap quilts to expensive ones and as you can imagine you do get what you pay for.
Plenty of reviews on hammock forums all say the same thing. those cheap set ups are fine for a weekend here or there, and fine for summer temps but nothing else.

The more you spend the lighter and faster the set up comes.
Take mine for instance everything except the extra pad all packs into their 'snake skin' set up which is basically just a part you can slide over the hammock to store it. So I keep everything in a dry back, I can open it put up my ridge line, pull the skins back and my hammock is set up with the tarp included. 3-4min tops and fully set up with pad and everything. Warbonnet hammocks are absolutely amazing but pricey as fuck

Goes to everyone, its always with me even if I'm not sleeping in it and I'm doing ground tent. take your shoes off and you're welcome to try laying in the hennessy.
My alternative set up now if I dont do hammck will just be my single man MEC spark tent on a Teton Amazon cot that is big enough to fit on.

My issue is the flat ground having shit did in your back and the muddy ground and needing to pack up dirty gear after, hence why I switched to hammock and/or tent on cot idea.
