The TRD CAI came with what appears to be a Toyota branded K&N filter. It's advertised to go up to 50,000 miles before requiring cleaning. I'll be keeping an eye on it but don't plan on cleaning it after to gets dirty. I'll either go with OEM or perhaps an Afe dry filter since they have no oil and are cleanable/reusable.

I always use OEM filters in my vehicles. My Tacoma is no different. I want the dirty air filtered prior to getting into the engine, more than the 'potential' for a couple hp increase that I won't be able to feel anyway.
You can never go wrong with OEM

Ive run K&N in all my vehicles for the last 20 years and never had a problem. I dont use them for more power though. Only so i dont have to spend the money on replacement filters. I dont mind the occasional cleaning either. Lets me spend a little more time taking care of her.

I'm with you on that, I would rather spend a little more on the K&N and be able to reuse it than $30 a pop for the OEM.

You all can say what you want, but since I switched to a K&N, Amsoil, and added the gashole, my turn signals are 30% clearer.

Right on, I started changing my oil every 200 miles with royal fairy dust oil and my truck is much faster and looks better too!

200 miles? Pal, you better get an oil analysis. That is way too long. Your carbohydrate levels are probably through the roof. If you are going to run that long you should consider synthetic Coppertone deep tanning oil.

I can't believe you abuse your truck so badly, 200 miles is waaayyy too far between oil changes. I change mine every 5 miles. It only cost a couple hundred dollars a month and it's cheap insurance.

Outstanding! Cheap insurance! $100 bills are excellent filter media!

I also installed a platinum catch can lined with diamonds that I empty every damn day, cheap insurance.

    Yeah.
I run the TRD intake with an OEM filter when it is dry and dusty and going out on trails. Easier to knock all the extra dust out of it than clean and re-oil the TRD filter. But, I run the TRD filter otherwise.

Is the mesh in the air box above the filter? And if so is ok to remove it for more flow? Thanks

Got it. Did a k&n because it was easy to get from autozone and will do the charcoal filter delete tomorrow morning! Last thing to completed that will be that hms (or hps whatever its called) smooth tube to get rid of the resonator for some sound!

Haha you fools! I keep 100 gallons of royal purple in the bed with an electric pump and a hose to the oil fill cap and leave the drain plug off so I ALWAYS have fresh oil and it only costs me a measly $2000 a month :anonymous:
