No Longbed configuration, moonroof delete and shitty color choice keep me from considering a Pro. I "get" the exclusivity of certain colors for limited model runs but to make those colors immediately available to all trims the next year dilutes the demand for a lot of us. What's the point of spending months looking for a smurf blue Pro without a snorkel now when I can probably get a smurf blue OR a lot easier for less if I wait a year? Do they really look that different from a distance of 50 feet?

If you made the Pro a trim level across the platform for all cabs, bed lengths and colors they'd probably sell more.

I wanted a QS longbed with a locker and no moonroof, Pro is out of contention no matter what the cost.

Tacomas ALL hold their value so that's a weak argument.

What's the point of spending 5-10K more now so you make $500-$1K more over an OR later when you flip it. That's also assuming you replaced any worn out parts with premium priced PRO OEM parts to keep it exclusive and PRO like.

Resale market might also be limited to who wants that color and trim so if you're looking to move it on private party sales you might have to drop the price to sell it.

Not sure used cement or calvary Pros are commanding a premium if I can get a newer used OR of the same color for the same price or a little less. It might force the Pro seller to drop the price if he wants to move it.

If the Pro suits your needs that's fine. I just think the price, hype and "market adjustment" doesnt justify what the truck really is.

Let's just say a guy bought an OR. What is the typical cost of the important mechanical upgrades to match the PRO? Specifically the Fox shocks, TRD skidplates, TRD exhaust, TRD intake and snorkel? The fake hood scoop, grill and exclusive color is irrelevant. As far as I know these are the only differences between the OR and Pro. If a guy bought an OR with the tech and premium packages and then added the fore-mentioned factory TRD mechanical upgrades, he would likely have a 'nicer' truck than the PRO yet just as capable as a PRO for less than a PRO.

But still not a pro. Trade in value if traded will still be lower. All those components added will not matter in trade in . FYI

If the TRD Pro had been available when I purchased my 2016 OR, I would have bought one. I actually wasn't looking to trade my 2005 Tacoma when it happened. But there she was, (Black Betty) sitting there at the dealership all by herself. It was November of 2015 and the 3rd Gen Tacoma's had just come in. We took my wife's Avalon in for service and spotted Black Betty, it was love at first sight. I wasn't expecting to make a trade with my 10 year old truck, but it only had 50K miles, the seats had been covered since day one, I don't smoke and they offered me way too much to refuse. So I bought Black Betty, paid her ass off, and felt good about it. One year later I saw the 2017 TRD Pro in Cement Gray, and I almost vapor locked. I wanted that truck so bad, but it just wasn't happening. Fast forward 3 years, still have Black Betty, loving her. Recently purchased TRD Pro struts/shocks from a member here on this forum. Now Black Betty gets to wear her PUMPS out on the town. I expect to drive this truck for 10 years, maybe more. In my experience with Toyota trucks since my first in 1988, I can honestly say, THEY JUST DON'T BREAK. Not once since 1988 have I had a single issue with any Toyota truck I owned. How many Chevy, Ford or Dodge guys can make that statement?

So choose your trim level, SR, SR5, SR V6, SR5 V6, TRD SPORT V6, TRD OFF ROAD V6, LIMITED V6, TRD PRO V6, and make it your own. Have fun with it, do with it as you want, it's yours. Not one of these options are a bad one, depending on your needs and requirements.
Not everyone can drive a TRD Pro. If you have one, GOOD ON YOU, big thumbs up. If not, love the one you've got.

How much lower though? Certainly not the price differential to buy into the Pro.

We already have a "Limited" model with trim only parts, they aren't commanding a big difference in trade in value over the OR.

Maybe a longer bed OR truck will offset the difference, who knows?

Guy buys an off road, only upgrades some of the parts to pro parts and now has a nicer truck than a pro? How’d you make that leap? Cheaper? Maybe. Nicer... I don’t get it.

Yea man, I loved that 2nd Gen truck. But was getting ready to retire and figured I would go ahead and get a new one. Love black trucks.
Yes all those trees are around my house. We live on 5.5 acres in the country. We have 90% hardwoods, very few pines.

If you get a fully optioned OR does it not have more interior bells and whistles than a PRO? That's why I said 'nicer'. I'm not refering to a base OR. I'm also not suggesting I want to or that anyone should upgrade their OR, I was just curious as to what it would cost.
