Damn those parts were clean! Post expired, I'd have to dig it up again. As much as I want it looking pretty again, it's lower on the priority list.

Interesting. I do dig that idea too, lots of ideas floating in my head, unsure of the direction I want to go yet.

How are the magnets mounted? Just stuck to the housing?

No real way to clean them unless you pull the entire third right? And then you honestly have no idea if you have shavings in there till it's too late? I'm skeptical, but it might be the route I go.

As for the high lift, I can't put it on that side since that's where my co2 and jerry mounts. Really dig the sheeth idea on the floor.

Yeah I had my plug unscrew the same time as @ToyRyd04 at Rausch, we tacked both of ours shut so I am due to address it. Just not sure which route to go.

 

I'd put a big inspection port up top and seal the bottom

Magnets were JB welded before painting and all that. I did add a magnet to the fill plug to help as a visual on the material it collects. With the new axles, each has an inspection port like the ruffstuff housing has. That could be a sweet option ANT could weld in for you on the rear axle!

 

Dude just weld those drain plugs shut. It was a constant issue on my old truck till finally welded them. This time around i shaved the whole bottom of the housing off. You don't need to change the oil till you blow up the diff anyway

Rear axle oil seal.. fun stuff.

Mine went bad during the 3rd gen rear diff recall so it took forever to find a seal. Now I have 3 spares.


Where’s your air hose going?

 

Yeah my real goal is a nice 220v MIG setup like I’ve been playin with when @6 gearT444E lets me at his shop, but this will be a great thing to learn and get some smaller projects done for cheap since I’m probably looking at over a grand between the welder, gas, consumables etc etc.

Yup, thankfully not my first time so I know the tricks in tackling it. My passenger side went about two years ago. And the hose goes in the wall, up to the attic and down to here:



I call it a poor man’s air system.

 

Mike, a lincoln 180 is like $650. Its 230 volt, and you can use flux core wire till you get gas. Ive been looking out for a used one of these my self to keep at home. That being said I SASed my old 4runner with less. Used a 115 volt lincoln on flux core wire that my uncle had in the corner of his garage.

 

This^^^. Everyone on the planet rags on flux core but if you know how to use it correctly it’s totally fine. Everything on my truck was done with flux core and a lot of stuff on @Chux truck has been done with flux core. Actually you know as well your tub job was with flux core aswell lol. It is a very similar process to stick so if you can get good with your current machine you should have no problems jumping to flux core mig. Just make sure you get a machine that can do flux core and gas shielded mig. Start cheap with fluxcore the as funds allow move to gas

 

Definitely not a bad next step for sure. But for now this ain’t bad considering I’m $100 all in on the welder and 15 lbs of consumables

 

I have a HF Vulcan omnipro 220. Its ok. Its stick, mig, flux core and if you get the tig setup you can tig as well. Its 115v and 220v. I've only used it in 115v. I dont have the correct recptical for it. I need to make an adapter to make it work before I sas the 4runner.

 

Damn I really like that machine...
