you can get that part from any auto part store doorman makes it and the part # is doorman
    917-016CD should be $24 average

at least get toyota to give you the cost of the factory housing to offset your metal ones cost.

I recently replaced the plastic housing.
The new one is easier to remove and attach than the plastic.C6289591-4590-4764-A9DE-5700BDF58A38.jpg
The specified K&N oil filters are a bit too tall.
I also had a couple of Toyota OE filters, so I disposed of the new K&N and installed the OE instead.706AB725-A969-4E3E-921F-D7C7DA6A325E.jpg

I am about to do my first oil change. If i find out that there is damage i will take it to toyota and make them change the oil. I have exactly 25,000 miles and toyota turned down my 5th oil change saying that the truck is over 2 years old and that they change oil every 10k

this was not the case in 2016 where i was told every 5k

as far as the 2 years i am unsure about that

I purchased OEM metal cap, and tool that fits it. Small investment for when I do my own oil changes.

I read the plastic becomes brittle but have not owned my Tacoma long enough to have first hand experience.

got it off tonight...used an 18" breaker bar and a lot of upwards pressure to prevent the last of the two tabs from snapping off.

Thanks again for your help, TW

I tighten the filter by hand and call it good. I just let the truck idle after completing the oil change and watch for any leaks around the filter. Been doing it like that for years with no issues.

I purchased the MotivX housing tool along with the drain valve and hose before doing the first oil change. The tool and drain hose is nice.
Let the dealer do the second change, so now hope nothing is hosed up when I go to change it again.
Hmm, perhaps having another housing around might not be a bad idea.

I just meant the K&N specified Tacoma filter number to fit the cartridge housing in the filter guide book at the store where it was purchased.

Oh gotcha. I was like maybe the new housing specified a taller cartridge for some reason.
