0320191425.jpg No idea what today's OTA update does to the unit. I know the one that removed Pandora a few months ago. Doesn't seem to be any change listed here.

I am currently escalating the issue of Entune updates with Toyota. Their terms of service specify that Toyota may force a mandatory update of the system in order to improve it, but removing a key feature is not covered by the "improve" provision in the EULA.

I have a call tomorrow with one of their executive team members. I have gone back in forth to demonstrate a good faith effort. Since they have an arbitration clause, I might as well take advantage of it and will request that they pay the filing fee and arbitration fees as the EULA stipulates.

I filed a warranty claim and submitted a complaint with the NTSB which asked for all information I could provide. The purpose of that was to ensure I could provide public/regulatory commentary on any settlement or judgement reached.

We will see. I asked for an "as good or better feature" to replace Pandora.

I downloaded a update on https://securedp.toyota.com/download-app/downloads after today’s update to see if there was a newer update and I was able to successfully install a update manually via usb. The website states that if the headuntit allows the update therefore it’s a newer version than what is installed currently.

Edit: Worth mentioning that the update was for the audio only.

You make some good points. Each of us have our own opinions on advancing or holding tech where it is or was.
Here are some counter points. Just as an FYI, my children are in their 20 & 30's. (This is stated for perspective only)
I have not listened to am radio by choice in my vehicle(s) in 30+ years
While I own a large number of CD's, it has likely been 10 years since I listened to one, and that was when I converted them to digital files.
I last listened to FM just after Pandora was removed from Entune, enjoyed it so much I turned audio off, rolled down the windows and listened to my exhaust for the remainder of the day's commute.
I now use BT streaming Pandora playing from my phone.
I do NOT want to put any stand alone GPS in my vehicle, I have navigation on the HU and phone (which with BT streaming announces all turns and directions over the speakers in the truck) Adding stand alone single function devices to my vehicles seems like a big step backwards.
Getting map updates via a dealer paid upgrade is, I agree, a waste of money and a pain the in ass. It should be free or minimally very cheap.

Will I trade my 17 for a 20? Sure if it gets totaled or the drive train blows up, otherwise I will upgrade to a year 2+ gen 4 or 5 Tacoma.
If I were shopping for a new truck at this point, I would wait for the 20 rather than buying a 19.

    Good luck!!

Why would you hope it's a joke? It was most definitely an advertised feature when I purchased my truck. I miss it, and though connecting through BT has improved recently through some Pandora updates, I still have to pull my phone out to start Pandora every morning. I miss Pandora integration.

I could hire a lawyer to represent me at the hearing, but the stakes are not that high, and the argument is very basic. $3000 entertainment system.

What I am most interested is getting a monetary judgement for a portion of the infotainment system, and then sharing with the community.

The reason Toyota believes that the consequences of removing features is low is because they force arbitration making it impractical to sue. However, if I am awarded $500 and share that judgement, anyone else can seek summary judgment.

Eventually, Toyota may think twice about this is the future.

I guess if I don't try they are not going to do anything on their own.

It is very simple.....the legal disclaimer specifies the terms under which Toyota can update the system. They would have to argue that removing that feature improved they system (they are not making that argument. In the official Toyota response to a letter sent by the CA attorney general office, they stated that removal of the app iwas necessary, but did not improved the system. They did state that the feature was originally used to claim as a safety benefit.

So does Toyota. They are not planning to hire attorneys to defend their position at an arbitration hearing they agreed to pay for.

They are counting on the majority of the affected to shrug their shoulders and figure it is not worth it. They are right to do so as the math is in their favor.

If I win any amount, my plan is to share the info others so they may get a similar payout by opening a case with Toyota escalations asking for similar damages and similar arguments.

Good job man, thanks for being a voice for the community! I haven't register to the Entune App as im afraid is going to mess something up on my HU, plus the reviews on the apple store are horrifying. Im continuing to use Bluetooth at the moment.

There's apps that can do tasks such as launching you're favorite app when you're phone connects to the truck BT. I use to run it when I had a second gen...

I would share something else with you that it may help to be aware of.

The Android/iOS app requires acceptance of a EULA, but depending on which state you reside in, purchased the vehicle in, the EULA would not apply to the software that runs on the head unit.

It is very likely that the EULA written by Toyota that forces arbitration could be challenged via a class action lawsuits as it only applies to the app, not the Truck.

Good to know. I may need to spend a weekend learning about that.
