For me it’s just time. Adding new things over years and researching. Sitting with ideas for a while instead of impulse. I’m like you OP. No dept, well, house and truck but that’s normal loan. Manage money right. I’ve had my truck 3 years and still add mods, nothing major but the little things add up over time.
First mods I started to do was my Harley 10 years ago. Dont like dropping tons of money so decided to sell some music equipment. Had a few extra guitars and a few half stack amps. Sold a guitar / get new pipes. Sold an amp / get stage two Intake kit. Get new rims for the truck $800 sold my stock ones for $550 on CL in a few days.
But I get it some people drop serious money after only having the truck a few months

I do miss the days of living at home and having more disposable income, pride and embarrassment aside, I was able to enjoy a lot of nice things when I was young and I am thankful for that... Now I have a wife , kids, house, sold most of my toys, have enough money to pay the bills and a little extra that usually goes toward the family. Both my wife and I have reasonable paying long term career jobs.. I am lucky to get 1 car part a year. Always dreaming though, cars, mods ect.. Dont think that part of me will ever die..

I work and stay within my means of living budget and try and stay out of debt whenever possible especially credit card debt I hate credit card debt. I am retiring May 31st and will be living in poverty after that compared to my current pay. Hope to survive on social security and my work retirement pay and slowly drain my 401K for the next 25 years.

Are they low mileage dolphins? I'm in the market for a couple.

My wife and I are DINKs, an acronym I had never heard before her. To those who aren't familiar: Dual Income No Kids. And luckily, she enjoys the truck being decked out for camping. We usually pay cash, but also take advantage of 0% credit offers. Using a credit card for the cash back can be a great tool if you have the cash to pay it off right away. Did a special on a new Platinum card through BOA right before buying the Habitat. If you spent like 3K within the first month or so you got an extra couple percent cash back. We put the Habitat on it and got like 500 bucks in cash back.

I’ve never liked bills/payments, so I always was creative in figuring out how to not have them. Moved out of my parents house at 22 in 2009 and started renting an apartment. Hated that monthly payment so I bought a foreclosed townhouse in 2010 and started fixing it up. Immediately rented out rooms while I was doing minor renovations. This paid for my mortgage completely. Refinanced into a 15 year loan in 2012 and rounded up on the monthly payment and did half that every two weeks. Did this for a bit living “free” with the roommates and then moved out and rented the whole house out for the mortgage payment. Just bought another short sale in 2018 that I’m renovating now and the cycle repeats. My first townhouse is about 6 years from being paid off now (because of paying extra) and then it’ll be straight income. Girlfriend moved in with me and is giving me rent that goes towards the mortgage. We’re looking at picking up another rental now too, to keep this train moving.

I make a decent chunk of change at work but it’s what I do with it that really counts towards padding my pockets.
