Loosening them did it? Guess I'll have to give that a go!

Ya, 95% of it. When it goes up on the hoist for an oil change it must flex it more than normal because the first couple of bumps after that I hear the creak. but after that nothing besides big hits off road, even then it's very minor.

As I was loosening the nuts you could hear the creak sound as I was putting pressure on the ratchet to loosen the nuts

So the TSB states that you need to replace the bumper extensions. Toyota charges ~$150 for each (driver, passenger). Do you think I'd be okay with going with off-brand such as these? Or should I just but the OEM parts and be done with it?

I don't see how another aluminum piece would solve the issue. Some plastic or hard rubber washers might.

It is a clicking noise when turning and coming to stop. Rattle when going over bumps. Had 2 separate shops look into it and both found it to be the aluminum bumper extensions referenced here. The 2nd shop gave me the TSB for it, which claims that replacing the bumper extensions with new ones will solve this issue.

hmm, i have no creaking but i do have a click when going over bumps sometimes, seems to be with suspension cycling, but i have been chasing it all around haha. Ill have to look into this.

Also whats the TSB number (to see what years it affects)

I have the same issue, speacially when hitting a pot hole or bump, the shop said its not suspension related so maybe this could be it, he mentioned to take the care to a bodyshop. BTW it doesnt happen all the time.

YES, ... i have been chasing it around. Thought it was spring perches shifting on the 5100's no amount of lube made it go away. I thought it might be rad support bushings, replaced them and it didnt make it go away (tho the rad support bushings were definitely needing to be replaced they were chewed up). Also replaced front swaybar to frame bushings with energy suspension greasable ones... no change.

I have tightened the Trans crossmember, all the skid plate bolts, as well as the 3 nuts per side that hold the front bumper supports to the frame... but not the front bumper to the supports.... i really dont wanna deal with taking the bumper cover off though....

Seems like the click is a frame flexing dealio, seems most to happen on small lil bumps, but will also do it in like a smooth g out bump. happened the other day (two clicks back to back quarter of a second apart) going over a speedbump at an angle at like .5 mph... i was like umm WTF man.

Maybe this weekend ill get to those nuts on the front.

But tonight, trying to chase down a squeak from what seems to come from my driver door.... UUUUGH.

Reviving this thread... this noise has been bugging me for years. I’m Far from a mechanic, but can’t afford to take it in again for this noise that mechanics themselves have no idea where it’s coming from. The diagnosis of slow speeds, bumps and turning along with description of sounds are exactly like mine. Now that it’s been some time since this has been talked about, did anyone Have any luck trying anything different than previously posted? Going to try to do this myself without tearing apart my vehicle this weekend. Thinking take off the plastic bumper, loosen the bolts, put rubber or plastic washers in between with some loctite and see where that gets me.. any thoughts?

Another common cause for noises when going over speed bumps etc. are the LCA bolts... they can cause creaking noises and squeaks and clunks... I also had an annoying squeaking noise plague my truck for a year till I ended up snugging the crossmember bolts (removed prior to facilitate removal of the trans), apparently I didn't tighten them enough when I reinstalled it, it was allowed to move when the truck flexed causing annoying noise. The bumper piece this guy dealt with is another common area to make noises.

awesome, thanks a lot. If the first one doesn’t work maybe I’ll give this a try. Not sure where even to begin on the control arm let alone taking the plastic front bumper off haha. Waiting for another reply or 2 before I really get in there
