Oh yeah ok, you have a different shock than me. But a 2 or 2.5" hose clamp on the bottom of the boot where the ziptie is supposed to be will fix that issue no problem. Bascially what I did in that picture I uploaded, just on the bottom instead of the top. Put it up toward the top of the shock body so you still have some play in the boot if you ever get into flexing the suspension a lot.

I realize this might not translate to cars and trucks as well, but long ago I put shock boots on my motorcycle and snowmobile the same year. Must have been a kick I was on. Both those vehicles shocks failed pretty quick and it was easy to see why, the moisture/condensation build up actually pitted the shaft and destroyed the seals in a matter of months. I would not use them personally.

May just want to spray both ends with PB blaster when you're in there, it will help later on when you go and try to change it

It has caps. I don't think you can really get the caps off though. It's like a subaru rear driveshaft

    Guys with the rust!

I was at the dealer today and they were all gathered around for a new TSB/Recall. All 2011-2017 tacos are getting a frame coating to protect them from rust. I guess 2018 they started using new metals. He said that they did some of the trucks originally and not others, which left some customers complaining, and now they are gonna get them all!

So there is hope, and who knows maybe potential for another frame recall down the road

    *Service Manager* How's your taco
*me* Ehhhhh (I have some failed sensors)
*Service Manager* Sounds like everyone else with a new one

Is their frame coating something I want? Or something I need to let them do, so later on they will cover my rusty frame?

Better question is this a real thing Toyota is doing? I kinda figured it would be all over the front page of the forums if this is a real thing that was just released.

I do not know the answer

I dropped my truck off at about 10 am eastern time, and the service manager literally opened the email in front of me. I didn't read it, or ask too many questions. I did ask him about it and why my truck wouldn't be covered which is where I found out mine is made out of different metals.

They could have been fuckin' with me, but the guy has been legit in the past and multiple other service writers were getting worked up about it. :notsure:

I at least have 0 reasons to make it up, so if he didn't either I think it's the real deal. Easy enough to see if this gets verified in the next couple of days.

Who was the guy looking for some off roading? Just come drive up my road. That's all I did to make this happen. What a mess. Now it's snowing outside and we have 5-8 more coming tomorrow:help:

    Yeah.

Tons, I've got some good lanes I can drive without going into the bad spots now. But some sections are just really bad, a few of the days I wouldn't have made it to my house without the 4 wheel drive.

So basically useless? I’m thinking if it’s forced, or needed to keep yota on the hook for a rusty frame, I’ll have it fluid filmed right before.
