Any experience on the Trek Stache?

I’m a hard core roadie. I ride at least 30 miles a day during the week with a nice long ride on saturdays. I just recently did the Strada Rossa “mixed terrain” ride on a gravel bike but it was pretty much 66 miles of muddy single track which was way too much for my bike. I did it because momma didn’t raise no bitch but now I’m starting to look into a proper mountain bike.
I have ridden Trek’s pretty much my whole life and have had an excellent relationship with my LBS.

I haven't seen someone NOT love riding a stache. I don't dare demo one since I know I would love it.

I had to be convinced to try it..

If you're considering the Stache, you might want to check out the Santa Cruz Chameleon as an option, as well.

Even better, check out all the steel and titanium options from Vassago. Their bikes are sick as hell and definitely capable of whatever setup you're looking for (27.5+, 29er, or even 29+ with the right fork).

I'll second the Vassago recommendation... I still miss my old Bandersnatch I built up w/ a Lefty fork. Luckily sold it to a good friend so I have first right of refusal if he ever decides to sell it. Ahem... [cough]RVA/Tredegar[/cough]

I am still making progress on the 69er Mullet project. I figured it would be slick to have a matching wheelset even though the sizes are different, and it is completely strange to have one wheel that can fit entirely inside the other.

Plus I chose Hope hubs so if I hate the concept and ride, and can pull the endcaps and change the hub width/axle type quickly. Plus Stans Flow hoops would be a good choice if I wanted a roudy bike again.

Realized my Fox Float Factory is completely trashed after only 2 seasons and 1 rebuild. Time for a DVO Topaz!

I had a Stache for a couple days and loved it. Have a buddy that rides one as his DD. Having said that, I think as a roadie, you should look at something more traditional. The Stache is wacky in the best possible ways, there's nothing really comparable as far as geometry; it lives in its own weird little category. I personally wouldn't own one as my only MTB (though, almost got one as a second bike). The only way to know for sure is to test ride one.

From an 08 to a 19. Slightly different use of bed. I used to be able to hang the knee pads etc on the cross bars and they would be dry by the time i got home. I also miss the 2 Gallon sprayer filled with water to wash the bike after a ride. It’s a pesticide sprayer so no one ever took it. Great for rinsing off a fishing pole and sandy feet! With the new setup, i can bring it along but it has to lay down.... 99 problems.

Sweet idea for the sprayer! Would be good to have that thing filled with Isopropyl or Technu for the spring time around here! :bananadead:

Permethrin is good stuff. Just don't ingest it or get it in open wounds. Its super bad for you.

I tried a couple different kinds of repellants last year and the mosquitos would still come after me, amazing that I can sit in a group of people and I will be the only one getting bit.

Anyone with a painted bumper have issues with the bike rubbing it when using a tailgate pad? I haven’t tried yet but concerned
