Originally posted this thread in the new member Forum. My bad. I have a 2010 quad cab TRDOFFROAD 4x4 with 12000miles on it. About 2000miles ago I started noticing a clunk coming from the Rear end?(I think) when coming to a stop. Then, another clunk upon removing my foot from the brake. It dose not clunk when I put the truck in neutral and stop. It was driving me nuts. So I took it to the stealership. And they concurred that their was indeed a " clunk in the brake pedal and that Toyota was aware of the problem and that their was no fix at this time. So upon finding this awesome web site. Thanks to you people I was informed of a TSB re-flash on the tranny to make the shifting smoother. So I took it back and the stealership re-flashed the tranny and upgraded my rear springs(Another TSB) Too make a long story short. They told me the clunk was drive-line lash. And that it was normal. My mechanic told me he has a 4 Runner and it dose the same thing..... Dose anyone else have this issue? And am I out of options.. thanks for your time..

I get that every once in a while. Don't think it's anything to worry about. Have read that a good grease job of the spline takes care of it. There also appears to be "clunk" issues related to leaf spring "windup" and/or axle wrap... think people confuse terms. But it's related to the soft leaf springs (3-packs). But you say that you got those replaced with 4-packs. So is the "clunk" better, worse or less now?

The same.....As far as Axel wrap goes. The symptoms are there at 2mile an hour as well as panic stops. So i don't think its axle wrap. Also I hit all the zrks on the drive line.

It's "normal". I say it quotations cause Toyota may come out with a fix for it later down the line but as for now there's no fix for it so we are told that it's a normal condition. At least that's what the engineers tell me every time I ask when they come to my dealership

My 99 Corolla does that same thing. It started off as you said, but now it does it all the time, and progressively gets worse. I'm going to try to replace the struts on it, and check the brakes.

But Tacomas are different. Just to clarify, you said it happened when you pressed on the brakes at slow speeds or just slow speeds in general? and does it happen when you go over a bump, or even on a perfectly smooth road?

After the vehicle comes to a stop. Just as the truck "settles" Their is a nudge. It happens 98% of the time. Smooth road or off road same thing. It also bumps or nudge after pedal release(brake).

That's exactly what my Corolla does. If I find a solution, I'll let you know!
