I've been trying to find the model or part number for the OEM CD head unit for a 2002 Tacoma Prerunner extra cab 2 door. The Tacoma that I bought has a Sony head unit with a subwoofer box and I want to remove it all and go back to the OEM CD player. If anyone has one that will work and would like to swap let me know.
    TIA
    Ill post pics tonight.

Why though? got some sweet mix tapes you want to play? :D

But seriously, pretty much any cheap aftermarket radio/CD player is going to sound better, have more power than the stock unit.

I can pretty much tell you that it will fit. Radios come in what are known in the industry as "single and double din", which is terminology for the size of the radio unit. The unit that has the CD in it is a double din unit and will fit, although if your truck has the small storage space under the stock radio, that will have to come out. I replaced my own stock OEM am/fm/cassette unit with a single din am/fm/cd unit that I bought from Sonix Electronics. They have a wide variety and most units come with free harness to connect to existing wiring. When I ordered my radio from them, they also included, free of charge, the storage box that fits under the radio! I didn't need another one since I still had the OEM one, but I ordered it anyway since it was free. They included that because some people had double din units that they replaced with single din units, and therefore needed something to fill in the space under the new single din unit. Hope this info helps!

Don't forget the pita din and a half. Or the jeep radios that look like doubles but the upper half is only 2 inches deep

Anyway, a $100 deck from Walmart sounds better than 90% of stock stereos. My bmw sounds pretty good, unfortunately it's almost impossible to upgrade it.

I chose to keep my head unit stock as well, 2004 extra cab. I added a GTA car kits blue tooth adapter, inserts behind the unit, and a kicker all in one sub under the seat, good to go!

question about the gta car kit. I used to have a grom add on unit that basically did the same thing. I couldn't get it to work like I wanted it to, and ended up selling it. my question is, if you're riding down the road listening to your regular am/fm radio and you get a phone call, how does the system react? does it automatically switch to the gta input or do you have to select it and then answer the phone call?

If you’re listening to the radio the GTA car kit is not activated. It is activated by pressing the CD function. If a cd is in the player, and you’re listening to the radio, press the cd function twice. The system comes with a mircrophone which you can wire up wherever you like, so if you’re listening to Bluetooth and you answer a call you’re good to go. If you’re listening to the radio and you get a call and you want Bluetooth connectivity you must go through the previously mentioned steps first.

I gotta say I like the Factory Radio better then any of the Newer Aftermarket radios only for ease of operation .

Then Sound Quality really comes down to speakers
