Hopefully it does a better job than the stuff they were putting on the 1st gens during the original recall; my '99 was from Arizona, got coated by Toyota before it came to Maine, and was only in Maine for a few years before they put a ball peen hammer through the frame when I asked them to check it before the extension ran out. Certainly glad I did, though.

If I would make out like I did with my 95, I wouldn’t care. Bought that one for 9,500 drove it for a few years, yota gave me 13,500 and a grand off a new one.

But I doubt they will do that again.

Yes! I agree. I have the feeling they rushed through it. I think it’s just like any other paint type application in which you would take measures to be sure it sticks and cures properly . Clean dry, surfaces etc etc :notsure:

When I got mine it was still dripping of the frame in some places.

Hopefully the 4Runner frame is made with these new metals too. This brine my area has been using seems to stick to the vehicles more than the plain old salt.

I wouldn't mind getting the internal frame coated on my 2006, any chance they will be revisiting the older 2005-2010 Tacomas which had different product applied internally and isn't as robust as this new procedure sounds like it will be long term?

I doubt if you already had some coating done on the frame, and you brought it back in to get reinspected, I don't think they will recoat it with anything else. If it has already been coated, I would try to get a new frame!

Thats Usually where they rot out, mine rotted from the inside out next to the cat. I also had some bad delamination and flaking in the c-channel section

Most of the V6 trucks I have seen rot out in the boxed section, and for the 4 cylinder trucks, it really seems to vary (like mine was rotten under one of the drains for the bed).

I was surprised the IIHS considers it a 'large' truck. The dimensions are right on par with the Tacoma.

Man I've missed a lot...Got to travel to Florida with baseball for a week and a half. Wouldn't want to live down south full-time but some 80 degree sunny days were a nice break from new england winter

I've already saturated my frame with FF, including heavy amounts in the boxed section.

I feel like their coating wouldn't play well with the FF, and it's going to be nearly impossible to pull mine off, but I don't want them to deny any future claims, either. Bah.

Okay so I was back at the dealer this morning to pick up my truck and asked some more questions. I got a little ahead of myself it seems, and I don't want to be fake news :anonymous:

So the service manager clarified that the email he got was to let them know Toyota is looking into doing the tsb, not that it has officially ordered it yet. He said it was going over what they were thinking about doing, and what it would require of them. Mainly it seems like the techs would have to be trained specifically for this new task, which should maybe take away some people's concerns about them doing it wrong.

But it is not out yet, hopefully soon. Sorry if I gave out bad info yesterday and got anyone excited.

I have FF once, but figure if I did it right before they couldn’t give me a hassle as it shows I am taking preventative action.
