He's talking about mounting it on the cab and opening it over the bed though. I'll be testing this out on my trip to the mojave road in 2 weeks. Will take some pics.

Ok i gotcha, that would work fine with an adjustable ladder I imagine...

Yeah I don't anticipate it being an issue. I don't have a bed rack yet so its the main choice for me. We will see how it goes.

Do those of you who use RTT's feel that bed stiffeners are required?

Whats your guys input on the CVT Mt. Shasta Summit vs Pioneer?

Is the summit worth the extra mulah?

depends if you need the more rigid floor and thicker canvas?

I have the pioneer and it seems more than sufficient for me. Its also a normal color that doesnt burn the retinas.

I also upgraded the ladder from sliding to telescoping.

^^^^ This. I've got the Pioneer and it's great - use it all the time and never any issues that I think would be solved by the Summit.

I will say - there are a few things that I think are important and worth spending money on, regardless of tent:
    1. Get the anti-condensation mat. Really helps keep the mattress dry if you are sleeping in cold weather.
    2. Use a rain fly with NO stargazer windows in it. I hear that all the tents come with both flies now, so if the stargazer one is installed, I'd switch it out. The windows aren't clear enough to really see anything through (in any detail) and they take forever to dry if it rains. Better to have all fabric up there that warms up more quickly in the sun.
    3. MOST IMPORTANT: Get a better mattress for inside the tent. I recently purchased an Exped MegaMat 10 Duo LXW which fits really well in the Mt. Shasta. I wrote about it in my rig review here. It's spendy, but amazing. Perhaps my most "worth it" mod at it's price. IMO, a much better way to spend the money for your sleeping experience as compared to the Pioneer/Summit upgrade.

ive seen your mattress replacement and it definitely has me intrigued. I for the life of me cant get my 0* to close inside the CVT when i had no issues in my old Tepui. Not a game changer, just changed the way i pack up each morning. I wonder if i'd have more room with the exPed deflated and bag still in.

The Exped definitely compresses a lot more than the OEM mattress. I used to have to sit on the corners of the tent in order to compress everything while I clipped the straps, things were so tight.

I still sit on the corners now, but it's to push air out of the mattress. That happens reasonably quickly (30 seconds for both sides?) and then the clips clip really easily. A lot less stress on the hinge (and those straps) now. And the cover goes on more easily as well.

Just a bunch of old crap
Recommended is the word. I ran for years without any, and didn't crack the bed or have issues but some aren't so lucky. Better to be safe than sorry.
