Seems like a good deal considering a good chunk of residents in the Peoples Republik of California is living in tents.

    Too few to list.
A way to get around the weight fee is to have a shell "permanently" mounted on the truck and inspected by the DMV and re-register as a personal vehicle instead of commercial.

I've done this twice in the past but it's a pain in the ass since you'd have to make an appointment at the dmv then have them inspect it. The inspectors in the past was cool with the shell just being clamped on. I guess they understand the whole fee issue.

Anything more than a $100 is too much. These states are swimming in gas tax revenue, sales tax, and registration fees. And they always claim we are getting mercedes quality services for our tax dollars. Everywhere I've been that's high tax the roads are garbage. I remember TripNET did a road study a few years ago and I think San Diego was rated worst roads in America as far as potholes etc.
    http://www.tripnet.org/docs/Urban_Roads_TRIP_Report_October_2018.pdf

Originally being from Milwaukee I know how bad those roads are - they built a $100 million trolley to nowhere but didn't repave the roads:

What a list. Riverside/ San Bernardino should be separate

Riverside and San Bernardino is like Beverly Hills and Compton.

Lot of California on that list! I don't know other places, but around where I live 95% or more of the roads are county roads. So, state and fed taxes aren't used (unless under some state/federal grant process I don't know about). It is really a county issue of not fixing the roads.

So sad....a partial direct result of Ronald Reagan emptying the mental hospitals in California.

The morons in California decided to build a bullet train with our federal money and then the Governor even he came to his senses and pulled the plug on that nonsense.

Ummm, he did it while he was alive. I'm blaming him for his "alive" actions as they are still causing suffering.

And, I have been told I'm the life of the party, thanks! :D

Well being that the money came from us California taxpayers, he better not give my money back!

EDIT: Unless you mean give it back to us taxpayers, then I'm with you. :D

I say if you don't like California move to someplace like Indiana. Cheap houses, no mountains, very segregated, lots of dirt and cornfields with 5 months of winter. You don't know what you're missing.

Just because someone dislikes their government doesn't mean they have to move. I dislike our federal government in many ways but still happy and grateful to live here.

    AZ determines registration cost by "assessed" value...mine is $541.82 + $25 Veteran plate + $25 Personalization = $591.82

Only reason I miss being stationed in VA!

If that’s the case, I don’t know what anybody’s complaining about.
In RI, we pay a fixed registration fee, which is $64.50 per year for a Tacoma, plus a property tax based on the value of the vehicle.
I paid a pro-rated tax of $936.12 for 291 days of ownership, which would have been nearly $1200 for a full year.
