at the dealership waiting for diagnosis. I tried to reset my tpms after rotating and only got dashes for a reading and a blinking Tpms light. It’s been like that for months. Anyone else have this problem?

Nope, just that it was on that side somewhere and had to be the grommet according to the "master" tech.

Yep. Good luck, I hope yours is just a bad sensor.

There have been full on holes in the firewalls of these 3rd gens, roof leak, windshield leaks and door seal issues.

I find it odd that everything worked fine until I tried to reset it

Mine have been screwed since the first rotation. They work fine after a TechStream re-calibrate, then if you try to reset, you'll get dashes until the next TechStream visit. I have new sensors going into my wheels at the next (soon) tire change.

No. I put steel wheel sensors in my TRD alloys so it's on me. I have the correct sensors to go in them now. We'll see if the system works corectly after the swap.

Your steel wheel sensors did not work in your alloys?

The sensors from the "Styled Steel Wheels" are different than the alloy sensors. Different angle. You can use them, but they have to be "flipped" 180 to fit. Then, it's difficult to mount/dismount the tires without breaking them. Plus, they have never worked past a rotation.

I'll have a set of TPMS out of my steel wheels for sale tomorrow if anybody is interested. Truck was built in SEP. 2018. So about 4 months old. I'll make someone a deal. $50 + shipping.

It is true sensors are broken easily while changing tires. I actually developed the TPMS solid light (no readings at any wheel) after my sensor broke in my wheel. This was 6 months AFTER I had my oem tires put on new Pro wheels. The installer must of cracked a sensor and put it on. It eventually broke off and I had to buy a new sensor.

So I rotated in a matching spare wheel I bought last weekend with a TPMS from Discount Tire. I finally got around to it now the weather is turning better. I bought the Carista dongle awhile ago & got their app to do the TPMS.

I got the app all set up fine & changed the sensor I needed to change to the ID# for the new wheel. It saved it & I went for a drive to get the sensors recognized. Nothing but dashes. I changed it back to the Toyota TPMS that was entered originally & still all dashes. I tried the reset button & nothing. Ran outta time & drove to work like that. Any ideas for me to try tomorrow?

The re-set has never worked for me, but I have the sensors flipped because they came out of my steel wheels. Going to fix that with new OEM sensors at the next tire change. We'll see. Here's a good video of the programming procedure.

Thanks I'm gonna try again tomorrow when I'll have more time. I probably shouldn't have messed with it today with such little time available.

The yellow TPMS light has gone off but still all dashes. I guess I'll start over from the beginning or maybe pull the batter cable for awhile

So just to follow up... I messed around with TPMS programming & reset over the weekend with no luck. The wheel left over from rotating in the new spare I had in the bed was broadcasting its ID# so I left it at home & went for a drive to reprogram & reset. It would not accept the new DT aftermarket sensor after several tries.

I took it over to Discount Tire this morning & had them look at it with their handheld programmer. He was seeing the same ID# also with his wireless handheld. The tech did a lil reading up & found a procedure to try & hooked up to the truck. I was trying not to hang over his shoulder while he worked but he mentioned that these sensors operate at 315 MHz and that he had to force it to take take the new ID#. I think he changed the ID# & did a hard reset. He was confident that it would work now.

The display was still showing all dashes & I told him that I could take it for a drive to get it to take the new ID# & I was heading over to the dealership to get an order anyways. I figured if it didn't work that I would get a Toyota TPMS while I was there & he said that DT would refund the one I got there plus swap it out for me. About 3/4 way to the dealership the screen was reading all 4 sensors now! Fixed

So in these pics I screenshot from Carista show the ID# of the problem sensor before & after. Notice how it has error icon & how the ID# changed
