I love Japanese whiskey. Last I went to my local place they had a bottle for $65, but I think it may have sold. I might check tomorrow or Thursday!

    Tours booked!

Thus far, we're scheduled/booked to go to Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey, Old Forester, and Heaven Hill. We have the second half of our Saturday wide open for right now. We might do the Muhammad Ali Museum or something. If there is nothing else going on or some folks want to go chill at the hotel for a bit, we'll be in Louisville and I can hit up one of many other distilleries. I do plan on heading over to Old Town Wine & Spirits to shop for some barrel selects/store picks.

VERY much looking forward to it. Should be a great time.

I assume you are doing the "Hard Hat Tour". I would love to know how that tour is. Since you will already be in Frankfort, I suggest you run a short 10 to 15 minute trip south and checkout Woodford Reserve.

Also on your way back to Louisville, I suggest stopping by Evergreen Liquors 12017 Shelbyville Rd, Louisville, KY 40243. They had multiple barrel selects/store picks and many bourbons I could not find here in Ohio. Make sure to ask the manager if your a looking for something specific.

Don't forget to check out Angel's Envy in Louisville. They almost always have their Rye available there, which I have yet to find anywhere else. Bulleit tour wasn't very good, I would not suggest that.

Lastly probably the best bourbon tour in Kentucky is the Makers Mark tour. I highly recommend it.

The hard hat tour is booked months out - especially if you are trying to get tickets for 6. I really wanted to do that one, but it wasn't in the cards. Standard Buffalo Trace tour for us this trip.

The Wild Turkey and Woodford Reserve tours kind of conflicted with one another when accounting for our schedule - mainly Woodford Reserve for having weird start times. I decided it would be one or the other. I've heard that the Woodford Reserve tour is stunningly beautiful and it is a highly respected brand, but the outside possibility of seeing Jimmy Russell at the Wild Turkey facility ultimately won me over. I really enjoy Russell's Reserve and wanted to see where it comes from.

We end Friday night at Old Forester, which is near downtown Louisville, so we'll be all set for a nice dinner following that tour.

Besides Buffalo Trace, the other big one I want to see is Heaven Hill, so I'm glad we got that booked. Elijah Craig, Old Fitz, Evan Williams, Larceny, Henry McKenna, Parker Heritage....all those represented in their Bourbon Heritage Center. That will be a great tour.

I'll put Angel's Envy on the short list of possible Saturday afternoon tours. That or Michter's are probably the first two I would try to get to if time permits.

Maker's will have to wait for another Bourbon Trail trip. I will go back sooner rather than later. My wife wants to go (yippee!) and there are some guys from the Whiskey Club that really want to go, so the possibility of running this back next year is pretty high. Tops on that priority list would be the "Behind the Beam" tour at Jim Beam. $225 and very limited dates, but you get a private tour with Fred and Freddie Noe, get to do some barrel thieving in the rackhouses, then sit with Fred and Freddie for a tasting and BBQ dinner. Maker's Mark would be added to that trip as well.

Thanks for the Evergreen Liquors recommendation. I'll do my best to make it over there!

I'm really digging Four Roses single barrel. Speaking of decanters, I think I might start a Four Roses single barrel only Infinity bottle. Might be interesting.

Thought I'd posted this earlier...but couldn't find it. We were down in the Bardstown area last weekend. Went on tours at Lux Row, Maker's Mark, Willett, Heaven Hill and the Jim Beam distillery just outside of Bardstown. Had a great time - stayed in a B&B in Loretto. We always love the Maker's tour - have to admit that Jim Beam also put on a great one, too, and you got to bottle your own bottle of Knob Creek Single Barrel if you wanted to.

    Here's our take:

Look at me judging a book by its cover!...dinnit catch that.

Pretty brave...I've done same with rye (I'm :canada:) and I've been burnt. Hayden's, Bulliet and others. Can't make the bridge.

Strangely enough I've cornered the market on Crown Royal Bourbon Mash release. So, Bourbonish tasting Rye, for like 29$ per.

Still digging the new abundance of variety at the local booze shop. Trying a couple fingers to celebrate finishing the refinish of the kitchen floor

Killed a bottle tonight. Not one of my favorite batches, but a bad Booker's is still a damn good whiskey.

    20190322_210215.jpg

It's a pregame for tomorrow. I'm donating the bottles for a tasting tomorrow evening. Will post the lineup tomorrow when I get them together.
