Guys! So I plan on replacing my rear axle seals as well as rear wheel bearings next month. Long story short my truck was throwing an ABS code for the right rear ABS sensor. I pulled it out and examined a lot of gear oil on the sensor itself which told me it was the rear axle seal. I also have a grinding and crunching feeling when turning from a standstill which leads me to believe that it could be the rear wheel bearings as well. My truck has 220,000 miles on it and is 2WD. Have any of you guys replaced the seals and rear bearings on a Tacoma before? Need some advice. Also who do you recommend to buy parts through?

I’m tired, but there’s now 2” between bumper plates and tile floor. I can deadlift inside now.

I don't know about your bearings if they are good or not but the ABS sensor is installed in the axle housing. The part of the sensor that goes into the axle should have gear oil on it. If the seals are bad you will have gear oil coming out of your brake hubs and all over the inside of your tire like the picture attached.

    seal2.jpg

The picture below shows the ABS sensor, the part circled should have gear oil on it.

Jack up your truck, grab each side of the tire and try to move it up and down and side to side if the bearing is bad you should be able to move it. Spin it while you have it jacked up and listen to see if you can hear a grinding sound on each wheel.
