I know way too much about plywood... My college summers were spent in a mill laying it up! Gave me a new respect for my dad who had been doing it my entire life.

He didnt want any under supports. So in total it possibly is lighter like this, but definatly less wasted room.

 

Truth is, found it on CL when builder sold his truck. Simple to remove and great storage when camping

 

My suspension is upgraded with bilstein lift using 6112 coilovers in front and 5160s in the rear. My 3+1 AAL includes the overload leaf. Probably would sag w/ stock suspension.

 

Where did you get the tank? Looks great!

OEM suspension, but replaced the OEM bump stops with

Timbren Tortun4 stops. A bit stiffer ride, but resolved the sag and carries the weight better

 

It's own weight currently. I need to establish something but for right now I don't have anything haha

It can't slide out because the drawers are locked into the top, the top is secured to the body and the body is built around the wheel well AND the bed stiffeners would stop it from falling out the back

 

Here’s mine. 2x8 cross pieces trimmed to fit in the notches and 3/4” plywood.

I thought alot about fabbing my own tank out of the way others have done with 6" PVC pipe or like a road shower, but in the end, I decided that the only portion of my system I wanted to pressurize is the line between the pump and outlet handle in order to minimize potential leaks from fittings and the like. It also wasn't much more cost to go out and buy a metal tank.

I got a 6.5 gal 8" diam aluminum spun water tank from here. Mine is the one with the level indicator on top:

I usually run a tailgate pad for bike transporting but can't haul bikes with the sleeping platform installed. Any recommendations on transporting bikes with the platform installed??

 

Roof rack or hitch rack. I can easily fit my bike in the bed ontop of my platform though.

 

I'm not sure what your platform looks like, but I'm planning to put some fork mounts in the center portion of my platform setup. It'll fit two bikes in that middle galley way. When we camp, I can move the middle leaf up to make a level platform for sleeping.



I also have a 4 tray 1up rack as my primary bike carrying option.

I wonder what the pressure rating is. 40-60 psi is hella lower than 3000psi scuba tank pressure. Unless it's literally wafer thin it should be ok for modest pressurizing.

 

Yes, it's thin walled spun aluminum. I don't what the pressure rating is, but then again, I am not pressurizing the tank in any way.

 

Yes, I saw that. I do know that abs and pvc are derated substantially with not much heat but aluminum should be better.

 

This is my third version of my camping setup. I started out with just a platform but soon realized there was too much clutter, then made some drawers but they were too much of a hassle especially with my dog, so this is what I came up with. The bed platform opens with hydraulic struts and has storage underneith (had a custom mattress made for it), then I built a cabinet in the front corner that has a drawer in the center, a compartment to the left that will hold 22 cans of can goods and a cubby on the top that's just kind of a junk drawer kind of thing, then there is small microwave on the bottom. I used reflective on the windows to keep condensation down and insulate it. the space beside my bed was too small for my dog due to the wheel well so I carpeted two pieces of plywood the sit on the factory groove in the bed and also slide under my bed when not in use, the space created with it is the exact size of her dog bed. the space behind the cabinet also just barely fits my alubox, generator and cooler. Behind the microwave are 2 optima bluetops that run the led rope light, outlets and a Xantrex inverter with an automatic transfer relay that shuts it off when it senses shore power. I have an optima smart charger that sits next to my heater (white box in the front) that plugged into the truck so if the truck is running its charging. All the wood is cedar so hopefully will help with help with bugs in summer. This setup works incredibly well for me as everything has a spot and all I have to do is level the truck take the box and generator out and camps made.

 

Nice setup, but I'm not sure it counts as camping anymore when you have a tv and microwave.
