MT. It’s no speed demon, but I really enjoy driving this thing. Even though I’m in stop and go traffic every evening, I don’t have any regrets.

I bought a 2019 Access Cab TRD Sport MT last month. Dealer did a dealer trade for me to get the color I wanted since it was over 300mi away. I did not even test drive it.

Wife and I both love driving it. The reverse has not been an issue for me so far. I don't shift into 6th gear until about 65-70mph and cruise at 75-80mpg if it's safe to do so. Gas mileage is great. No regrets.

    MT for the win!

Glad to hear you are enjoying the truck, you will notice Reverse if you have to back up an incline with a load.

Just bought a 19’ DCSB OR with tech and premium package M/T last week, 400 miles in and I love it. I went back and forth between an auto and M/T. So glad I got the manual, clutch is mushy but I’m used to cable clutches where you can feel it “bite”

The wife was at the dealer near her mothers house (I don't care for particular dealer) and I asked her to see if they had a access cab with manual and she sent me some pictures of one that had just rolled off the delivery truck. Two weeks later I purchased it from another dealer who got it for me. Salesman asked me if I wanted to drive it and I declined, just wanted out of there, already had the money in my account from credit union, get it done.
    I love it.

    M/T is the best "T"

But as others have stated, the reverse is way to long. Makes it difficult not to ride the clutch when you are reversing. But other than that I am very happy I went with the MT over the Auto.

This being my first MT truck, I would bow to your more extensive experience with such things. Going from small MT cars (Civics, Golf, STI) to a truck, the difference in shift throw felt massive to me.

I use reverse alot in the summer, I back up a sloped driveway to back into and park in my garage. I have a freezer in the garage and prefer to park the hot end of the vehicle away from it especially in the summer. Never an issue with my former 2002 Tacoma 5sp MT and so far no issues with the new 6sp MT in reverse.

Have not accidentally shifted into reverse either, I shift gently and let the synchros guide the stick into the preferred gear.

One develops a feel for the MT and it becomes second nature.

It does take some getting used to if you've mainly driven small cars (like me). What's weird is the clutch. Removing the clutch accumulator makes it feel normal.

I should add I learned to drive using a MT (3 on a tree) and owned and drove quite a few MTs. I also worked in a large truck shop and had to drive all kinds of MTs including 12 speed diesels etc.

Guess I'm trying to say give the 6spd MT a chance, learn to shift it and how it prefers to be shifted.

0-60 in a little over 7 seconds is no joke. Many, many vehicles can’t get it up this fast. Not as fast as my old WRX but still...

I was just reading about removing the accumulator! I was wondering if it made a difference in daily driving...

I too always back into a sloped driveway and into the garage. Backing into the garage is the only way we can fit 2 tacos in there and still be able to get in and out of them.
Yes, I knew about the reverse gearing possibly being an issue quite awhile before I bought mine, a coworker mentioned the same complaint with his 2016.

Best advice I can give for newbies is to make sure you adjust the driver seat before driving off. You don't want to be too close and not too far back. Your clutch leg needs to be comfortable for depressing and releasing the clutch.

The accumulator mod thing has got me scratching my head thinking hmm.. lol clutch feel is a little different than what I remember but been so long since I have owned a MT just took some getting used to.
I wonder what is this accumulator for? Kind of like what a brake booster does?
I did notice when it was 40 below zero the clutch pedal seemed to hang up just a little until I drove a little ways.
I hang up myself a little though when it 40 below zero temps out, lots of stuff don`t work the same in extreme cold.
    It`s been fine since.

Getting a perfect fit is never going to happen for me but I find a adjustment that works.
That`s my only complaint I can think of about any of the Toyota`s I have owned or driven.
Wonder if designer is 5`6" guy...with short legs?

I’m still reading on what it does. From what I gather so far, it attempts to smooth out clutch engagement over time. So you dump the clutch at speed, this thing slows down engagement. It’s an attempt to n00b proof.

Thanks Fang, that could explain the weird clutch feeling at extreme cold temps maybe.

Correct. The accumulator delays engagement. Getting rid of it just makes things feel normal - for a hydraulic clutch.

My clutch is still slow at low temps with the accumulator removed. It maybe doesn't "stick to the floor" as bad, but it's still slow till it warms up. Sorry lol
