Are you saying that the evidence to present them to prove that both TSB's will work for my 2018 MT, is that:
    a) the same tune is for both
    b) this tune covers 2016-2018 ECUs
    Am I getting this straight?
    Thanks

Yes and no. Sort of. I don't think you will be successful if you go in asking for something particular that covers a range of model years. Just my hot take there.

My script would be for your 2018:

-- I have either surging at 40mph (TSB 58) or problems with steering in parking lots (TSB 125) (Pick One). I have read that there is an ECU update for my MT Taco. Can you please plug in TS and do a "Health Check." I am told that one will show up and if so, can you please apply it.

If there is any resistance, you can whip out the TSBs:

-- Show them this from 58 Page 3:
    upload_2019-3-15_10-56-14.jpg
That is your MT ECU even though it is in an "AT only" TSB.

-- Show them this from 125 Page 3:
    upload_2019-3-15_10-57-18.jpg
That is a 2017 MT ECU. The same one as shown in 58 (above).

-- Let them know that you are just trying to get your ECU updated to 04A71 and it will be if either TSB is applied.

-- If you're feeling lucky, bet them $50 or a couple pizzas that it will load successfully.

    ETA:
-- Ask for a pic or something that shows that you are now at 04A71.

The Carista or OBD Fusion apps will show this to you.

Note: All the posted work orders for this show a standard rate of 0.40hrs. In reality, this takes 10min to accomplish, so it really takes more time to explain to them than it does to actually do.

Lemme know if you have any questions.

No problem! I'm happy to help.

I did add a little edit toward the bottom about getting proof that you were updated.

Now, just start thinking about how nice shifting is going to be the minute you leave the dealer.

At the dealership now (Stevenson West, Lakewood, CO), hoping to god they apply the update...the truck is obnoxious to drive at this point.

No luck on this. I took the tech for a test drive in the fucking truck acted normal as soon as I get down the road it’s now doing it again. So frustrating.

I really don’t understand the dealership or Toyota’s reasoning on this. It takes more time to test drive then the reflash pays. Why not just put the most up to date calibration in the truck and be done with it.

Anyone who is worried about the ECU somehow reverting back to the original.

I does not do that. At least in my case. I commute through a steep incline nearly every week. I had a lot of issues getting up that incline with the old tune. I did not have problems getting up the incline with the new tune.

It's been six months later, and I still don't have any issues with this incline anymore.

It just feels like a normal MT vehicle now, and it didn't before.

I used the the TSB 0125-18 for the steering input making the rpms going up. Even though I never experienced that. I explained it didn't happen all the time but several times when leaving a parallel parked or exiting my garage when cold. They did it without question! I show them the Tsb, explained and they did it.

This is supposed to be the latest update for outperform trucks or the same as the one above.

Just to be clear, none of this matters with OVtune since these two TSB have been rolled into the OVtune flash ?

I went to the dealer and did pretty much what you said but they told me they thst neither of those were applicable to the MT (even after I explained it to them) but that they uodated my ECU “to the latest version anyways”

A week or so after that is when I flashed OVtune. Wondering now if I need to go back and make sure these got done ?

    What MY is your Taco?

It is best to start with the lastest stock tune as a baseline for OVT.

The Carista and OBD Fusion apps or TechStream and OVT software using the Tactrix cable from the OVT kit will tell you what ECU ID you have.
