So many other hobbies to spend $4k on one doesn't need Kings just to get to the trailhead or forever21

OP has a 2019 TRD OR, did you even test drive the truck before you bought it? Could have saved this headache and tested the Sport vs the TRD OR to see what you preferred.

$4k budget friendly for just 4 shocks? All this tells me is you aren’t and have never been mechanically inclined.

    I have an OME kit.

886 coils, 9000 fronts, 6021 rears, 2.5" leaf lift rear. Rides like a stiff wagon.

Lol. I know, right? Haha. But really though, I know shocks aren't below $500 each so I was aiming for an average.

I don't mean I immediately have 4k on me. Basically a planning process. Wanna save up for some good shocks because even though I'm not hardcore off roading right now, I'm gonna eventually get into it.

Well, yeah. Obviously. This is my first time owning a truck and I've never actually had to work on my own vehicle before this. Hence why I'm asking in this forum.

Amen to that. I bough the OME medium kit and it was jaw jarring stiff as a crackhead on Viagra even after thousands of miles. I had my ball joints go bad after 10 months. Wish I just would’ve gone Billies from the get go...as they say pay once cry once

So would you recommend going with the soft strut or different coils or something? I have no front or rear bumper right now, but plan to add both bumpers, rtt on bed, and I have a roof rack over the next year or two.

And do you mean bil 5100 or 6112?

I really can’t figure it out.

OME had 590# springs with the 92001 shocks. It was STIFFF...like stiff after some year round trail riding.

Now, my (other brand) shocks have 700# ext coils and it rides waaay softer with seriously more confidence.

I think the valving of those OME shocks are preloaded a lot and have valving more for weight-bearing overlanders type equipped setups...which is why they build those kits to be bulletproof (for the most part) ...and they are just that. Bulletproof budget trail rider setups for more capability.

Stoked on the 6-leaf (medium) Dakars

    Just depends on preference

When you say stiff, do you mean just a harsh ride, or do you think it affected performance as well? I was planning on picking up a budget lift kit and then later upgrading to full kings if I even need them. Still on the fence about bilstein 5100 vs 6112 vs ome nitrocharger for budget. I'm doing a lot of camping and offroading/overlanding and have some upgrades that will make the truck a bit heavier.

I have the 90021 soft ride shocks and I wouldn't say they're any stiffer than stock. They absorb bumps better too.

IMO the 5100s are under dampened. I remember them being quite bouncy after any drop or quick cycle of the piston. They do feel smooth on the highway though because of this. Im looking elsewhere this time because of the dampening.

Don’t do shocks only. Budget in a rear complete leaf pack, front upper control arms and new rear bump stops to start. 4K can get you all of that.

5100’s on factory Toyota springs cranked down for the lift are under dampened. BUT are perfect (IMO) with standard OME lift springs (+ about $195 new).
