While it's not a Tacoma, it is a Toyota and it is only half a model year away. So, I figured I would share just the same. It now lives here in Salado, TX and will hopefully stay in the family for a while.

I have to share, this community is unlike many others I visit frequently and have been a part of, from the clean and easy to navigate forums to the inclusive, laid-back, good natured, and very knowledgeable members. Well done TacomaWorld.

I have seen several TW stickers on trucks in and around the Austin area, but never knew what they stood for. Now I do. I do mostly prefer to stalk around and absorb info from everyone. As well as stare at all the sweet trucks and gear.fullsizeoutput_5c26.jpg fullsizeoutput_5c2c.jpg

Next step is to attend some Austin area events and get to know some of the locals. And maybe earn a TacomaWorld sticker.

Deciding on stripes or no stripes is my first order of business for the truck, then OME rear springs and torsion bars to lift it a little more. I do not see the need for a LT suspension as I do not plan to do much more than camping excursions, dog hauling and running around. But....then again...

1995 XCab 4x4 22RE 5 speed. It hates the combination of a windy, hilly highway. Would much prefer to settle into 65 mph not 75. That's ok with me just not everyone around me.

Thanks @Tacocritter and @Bigdaddy4760 maybe @ChadsPride will hook me up, but I don't mind "earning" it either by doing my part to help with the local gatherings. I look forward to finding the time to meet everyone and maybe I can be the designated bottled water chef at the next event.

@Gixerkiller Yep, thinking the same thing but didn't want to share out loud....figure I could trade a kid or two and get one.....or a flag for when we are camping. Actually, I have 4 kids and 2 have college bills attached to them, so they are the easiest to give away. Though, my daughter does have a fun little JK Jeep in UT orange that she crawls around Austin in. If you see her give her a wave, she loves Toyotas and is quick to smile. And yes indeed I am working on getting her to trade it in on a Tacoma. She sends me photos almost daily of Toyotas she catches around campus.

Welcome! TW isn't really Tacoma exclusive despite the name. I've got a 5th gen 4R and everyone is still cool to me.

Welcome Richard! This community is, indeed, unique and special o_O. Love your truck - reminds me of my first - 89 xtra cab 5spd with 22R that I sold in 99 to buy my first Tacoma. It had ~100K miles without any problems, even with driving parking on the San Francisco hills for 6 years of that!

    Thanks everyone !

I do indeed look forward to meeting, helping or even just sharing thoughts with everyone.

I have always been a Toyota driver and thus loved the simplicity and durability of the Toyota 4 cylinders. In 1988 my father bought my brother and I a 1986 regular cab 2wd pickup for high school. I kept the truck until 1995 and in that set up the 22R was peppy and more than enough. After selling the 86 my wife and I picked up a 94 Camry LE with a 4 cylinder and of course, never had an issue. In my little 93 MR2 I just sold, the little Toyota 4 cylinder (130hp) was really peppy and a blast to drive.

More recently I had a 1989 4Runner that I sold in 2017 for probably too little but it had the 3.0 V6, and it could cruise at 70-75 all day.

But, in the '95 truck it is just a little underpowered for modern highway speeds. And the stock 4.88 1st gear is a little too tall for stop and go. These little trucks were made to climb and crawl.

I have also owned a 1991 FJ80 (slow as a dead turtle) and a 2001 DCSB Tacoma. Darn ! Like most of us I wish I had the wisdom, money and space to have kept all of them. I have told myself from now on I will not listen to myself when I feel the itch for something else. Or I will, but I will keep the older Toy as well.

The old 4Runner, sold to a guy in Houston but has been seen here in the Austin area on Duval near 45th Street with a tarp over the back instead of the top. Easily Id'd by the wheels and black rock guard I painted on the hood with rattle can bedliner. And my 2001 TRD 2wd I sold to buy the 4Runner.

@MattCowsmasher Had the Tacoma when we lived in West Temple/Belton near Lakewood School in the early to late 2000s. If you are ever in downtown Salado at Barrow Brewery or need help with a project, let me know. I am a great watcher, coach and if necessary beer holder.
