I second the expense of slide ins. We were debating on a RTT on a topper or a pull behind type trailer. We liked the option of setting up camp with trailer and still being able to easily utilize the truck for various options (trails, food runs, supplies, etc.) rather than completely breaking a bedtop setup down. Just our preference.

    This.

My idea is to tow the trailer, find a site, make camp, and drive around and just have fun.

I'd load the bed with all the supplies, bring a few 5 gal gas cans, and just be.

I know I have a long way to go to read up on tow and payload calculations, balancing the trailer, ride height, away bars, etc. There is a lot out there and I have plenty of time to read up before I purchase one.

Is there a benefit to buying used vs new? I'm assuming that camper sales reps are as useless and tits on a nun whenwit comes to knowing thetins andaouts and specs of all the trailers. Nor should I believe the prices. Then again I don't know if you can haggle the price of a used or new trailer like you could at a car dealership. Also am I to assume that lemon laws don't apply to travel trailers or is it state specific?

Time to look into this further.
Ugh, not many location near me....
Looks like I'd have to drive to PA to check them out.

From my experience buying used isn’t good. People tend to get upside down in campers because they lose value fast and then try to sell them for more than they’re not really worth.

So new is better in my opinion.

I still think you should look into pop up campers. Not as bad as you think.

As much as I'd like to, I find a trailer more comforting. The two biggest things bring a bathroom and kitchen.

Hell, I could just get a decent travel trailer and a pop-up slide in for when I really want to get away. Why not have the best of both worlds?

I have a 13 ft boler. 2 burner stove ice box. Bed is a bit small for 2 good size adults. There are several small FG trailers out there and most weight in.at less than 1500 pounds with gear..here it is behind my.Mazda but now tow with my 09 Taco20181017_111743.jpg

I like my camper:thumbsup:. The box is only 15 feet with an overall length of 19 feet and it weighs right at 4200 ready to camp:thumbsup:. It is a good layout with a slide that is 2/3rds the length of the box. I like the dual axles for towing stability and the extra set of brakes:thumbsup:. Took it on 2 1K plus trips last year and the truck did handle it well however we will see this year when I take it to Colorado. The gas mileage does suck:eek:.

Where you want to camp should be a major factor. I can take my Four Wheel Popup almost aNY where a land Rover can go. I like to be able to camp when exploring far offroad. No way to get a trailer some places I go. But no AC means I don't go to hot places. The FWC Swift model fits Tacoma short bed. It handles the larger one I have, pictured. I don't have optional shower cause I heard too small, difficult.
