Now granted I'm trying to interpret this all from a PHOTOGRAPH, which is unfortunately quite low resolution and from fairly far back, but those little specs in the bottom of your bucket don't look at all like metal shavings from where I'm sitting. They look like SAND.

Sand, as in the crap that will blow around the aftermarket drain valve you say you have installed and pack into the port and get washed out into your catch bucket at an oil change.

Unless you can absolutely confirm that those are actually METAL, then I strongly suspect that your catch bucket got contaminated basically by the very conventional kind of filth that falls off of the bottom of any kind of vehicle.

The drain has a rubber cap on it when not in use, any sand that would have collected should have already been cleared out by 5 quarts of hot oil. The pan only collected 1/2 - 3/4 of a quart.

Pics are from an iPhone XS you should be able to zoom in pretty good if necessary - I'll get another pic with better lighting.

While there is some dirt in the pan, the shiny, slightly reflective, lighter color, particulate is metallic.

Edit: Don't get me wrong, I'm hoping it's something like that. I'll feel stupid and relieved if I get nothing on the next change.

    Yep.
Another Blackstone supporter here, but in the mean time, take a clean magnet to the pan to really divide the particles. Wipe it off on a paper towel then take some macro shots.

Here's what my magnet pulled out of the pan. Some of it was not metallic.

Master tech at Toyota told me to add another 2k miles and bring it in. If there's any changes between now and then bring it in immediately. If there are shavings in the oil, they tear down the engine and repair it or replace it with a brand new one.

Fingers crossed it's nothing and I'm an idiot.

There's an oil dump at work. I'm thinking I'll make a paper towel filter and see what I get.

If that's crap from engine parts it would be knocking like a bill collector knocking on the door.

I recently took it in for the TSB for engine knock. The dealership said they wouldn't do the TSB because I'm over the 80k milage limit.

She knocks at lower RPM under load.

I'm currently at 93,136. My warranty expires in July and at 100k.

I'm saying all the time not a spark knock. Like in neutral sitting still when you give it a little gas. If there is brass in the mix it means the bearing/bearings have been beat to death for a while that's why I think it's not brass usually after it gets to that point it goes boom. Don't know what you got going on there but I don't think it's coming from the engine but you need to get to the bottom of it.

    Ok.
    Anything rotating equals wear.
I don’t use or ever drained a truck with a valve. If the valve sticks higher than the bottom of the pan all the little shavings will stay in the bottom of the pan until it accumulates enough to flow into the tube. Was it nose hi this time ? Is that all metal? If it was bearing material I think you would be hearing something. I think like others have said run it and do a short oil change. I think you should wash your oil pan and skid plates before you drain cause some of of it looks like dirt or sand . Run a magnet through it.
    I’ve seen worse....

Hadn't thought about the valve sitting higher than the bottom of the pan, very good point. I've been getting a knock on sync with engine RPM at lower (1500-2000) when the engine is under load. I noticed it a few weeks ago when the truck was going uphill on cruise.

The truck was mostly level when I drained it. I had just washed it and I put a lot of emphasis on the bottom, I had just driven on snow-covered, salted roads. The dirt likely came from the bottom of the truck but the shavings in the pan were metallic and a magnet grabbed em. The pan was clean and dry beforehand and the pan only caught the last 1/2 - 3/4 a quart while I was swapping filters.

Guess I'll be pulling all my skids off for future oil changes. That's a bitch and a half.

You don’t have to pull your skids, just know you going to get contamination.
Even as careful as I am on the race cars I still get dirt, rubber, blood (lol) in the pan.
If you loading that girl up at 1500-2000 it could be spark knock ( I think that was mentioned).
I wouldn’t be playing the doomsday card right now.
But forcing your truck in that knock area all the time is not good.
Better fuel, different driving habits is something I would try.

    Oh yea.
    I like your mod list...
