Whats up everyone. I have a 2006 Tacoma RWD. It's leaking brake fluid from one of the lines right under the drivers side door. Close to the nut and "connection" (valve?) where it connects to the two lines that come from the engine bay.

I've done normal disc/drum brake jobs before but no experience replacing brake lines. So a couple questions.

Is it possible to buy pre bent brake lines from Toyota or auto parts stores?

Is it possible to buy the "connection valve" from Toyota? It's super rusty and not sure if it should be reused.

When I do get the lines disconnected. Pretty much all the brake fluid will leak out. Is this a concern? Or is it fine as long as the system is bled afterwards?

Just looking for guidance really. Is this a DIY or better left to a pro? It seems simple enough however with the amount of rust on the fittings could be a bit of a challenge.

Plan is to replace all 4 lines. Thanks for any help

    That's pretty bad.

Auto parts stores will carry straight pieces of brake line that you can shape yourself. They also have flaring kits to create new connections. If you decide to run the lines yourself make sure it does not rub on anything or else it will eventually wear a hole in the line. I have not done this with a Tacoma but I did a line for my wife's Pontiac once back in the day.

Honestly I would just take it to a competent mechanic and have them do it. Key word COMPETENT. One mechanic we went to fixed it but it rubbed and caused another hole. That is why I ended up doing it myself.

All that rusty shit is going to need to be replaced. Some of the shorter sections may be available preformed, the longer pieces probably need to be fabricated

Appreciate the reply. I can see there are clips all along the frame and in engine bay so I dont think rubbing would be a concern. No worries about master cylinder or anything when undoing the lines in the engine bay? Or possibly needing to bleed master cylinder? I'm not a mechanic so I have no clue.

Haha. I actually have an appointment with Toyota to look at the frame. Not sure I can even make it there as is. Feel kinda bad if I were to drop it off with no brakes. I dont know. Kind of a dilemma. Should i let them look at it as is? They may determine its not worth repairing? Frame is definitely rusty but still seems solid as far as I can tell.

Don’t feel bad... the new frames come with new brake lines if I remember correctly!

Looks like you kinda have to park it until the frame (hopefully) gets replaced
