Alright so here is the deal. I want to lift my truck and add 285s but I am a little skeptic after driving my brother's F150. He recently added a readylift and upgraded from 265s to 285s. Right away I could notice the loss in power when pressing the gas when stopped and the loss in braking power once I got to speed. My question is this: can the bigger tires actually cause damage due to the higher rpm required to roll or I am I over analyzing this. Is it really noticable or have you all just changed your driving style? Please post your opinion if you have 285s

285's will be a heavier tire, more rotational mass... and it will affect the acceleration and braking. However I wouldn't suspect that much on our v6. I'm going 285's also... I'm more concerned with trimming and rubbing UCA's than performance loss with our v6. It's all about gearing... and it seems most people on here don't really need to think about re-gearing until they start hitting 35's and such.

    lower gas mileage... check
    quicker brake wear... check
    rubbing issues... check
    quicker CV boot wear... check
hassles if you get a flat... check

Looks killer and worth the trouble IMO.

^^ x2 haha.. yeah acceleration from stop noticeably slower feels like your are towing something haha.. my 285s alone weights 58lbs each, plus wheels are like 22-24 lbs= 80lbs each wheel.. my stock 16s w/tires are like 62lbs. Once its starts to move though its no longer as bad

My solution to the sluggish feel is a supercharger :p

I can still break the tires loose on asphalt.

yeah it should still break loose of you really gun it..

just curious have you done or tried this? coz im thinking you will still feel sluggish response on regular driving from a stop unless you put a good throttle each time and still doesnt help with mpg. Once rolling though, s/c should mskr you feel great again

No my truck is still stock lol. It's on a very long list of upgrades I want to do though. I did put bigger (though 265) BFG AT's on my last... honestly it rode better and I could burn rubber all day no issue. They were fairly heavier than the rugged fails too.

im thinking of going forced induction too but prolly on next 2-3 yrs or so lol.. trd s/c might be the least hassle route

your least hassle route is actually re-gearing. you can get some power and mpg back.

I'll probably do the TRD SC to maintain the warranty... unless I wait to long to do it then I'll probably save up for a URD Mark III setup. Even with the TRD though, you can add on most of the URD performance bits (such as underdrive pullies) and bump up way over the 300hp stock trd setup...

ridiculous... unless you are a 2.7l you'll hardly notice the difference between 265s and 285s... I've had both.

Now I have 305/65/17s which are just about the same as 285/70/17s

but it could be because I have a manual trans

How are you liking the Trail grapplers?

I wish they weren't as soft as they are. But man do they bite :)
