Here is Toyota's automatic trans fluid adjustment procedure. It is easier than it looks in the document. It's good info to have.

There has to be something we can do as a community to help prevent this from happening. Not bashing on you OP, just saying its too common of a mistake that could be fatal to the truck.

Well my son was "helping". So I was worried about what he was doing more than what I was. Luckily didnt drain it all out as I have read it has happened to others before.

Saw red was like wtf... put the bolt back in.

When I changed my oil I kept looking at the engine oil pan plug and kept questioning myself because I did not want this happening. Super easy mistake to be made if you’re not paying attention. Good thing you realized your error quickly and corrected it!

Checking under yea it's easy. The oil pan is hidden more than the transmission one. The transmission bolt also came out super easy which I thought was strange.

Any of the aftermarket skid plates help this lol.

You can't even get to the transmission drain without removing skids.
Vs most have a cut out for oil pan

Did the same thing when I changed mine last Thursday, kept checking to make sure it was in fact the oil pan, and let a little drip on my finger to confirm before draining! The oil drain plug is a little hidden and the trans plug is plain sight so I could see how it could get pulled by mistake.
I would say it would be okay if only a small amount drained out, but I'd probably do a level check just to be safe.

I did this as well first time I oil changed. Recognized it immediately and put the plug back in, measured what drained and replaced. Been all good since.

Use a paint pen or your wifes nail polish and mark the plugs. Helps you later and helps the jiffy lube guy not fuck it up.

You’re gonna have to add more fluid and do the proper fluid level check.
