So... finally have some time off and I take the Taco for a good bathing before I start my next series of truck and work projects. Get home and begin the process of removing the back seats, and low and behold... water. Look up and the headliner is soaked, and by the water marks, it's not the first time.

Book it into my stealership and reminded them of the TSB for the leaking third brake light. They check it out and viola... not covered by the 60k warranty, nor is it covered by the Platinum extended warranty that I purchased for just such events. After some polite conversations, it's now going to Toyota Canada for resolution. Will keep y'all posted. Super disappointed.

Had to add some more gap. These after market bumpers do some serious flexing. Check out the rub marks

Project "Silencer" is underway. Removed the rear seats, storage compartment, liner, subwoofer, cleaned it up and installed dynamat to the back wall and floor. Had to drive it with nothing back there... and it's noisy AF. With the matting in and everything back in place, the noise level is lower. Will be moving forward through the cab and will pull the console and do that when I have all of my parts together for additional USB plugs in the console.

A couple of notes: Taco Rear Wall Bare.jpgTaco Rear Wall Dyna.jpg

    • If you take out the subwoofer, you lose everything audio. The entire brains are in that system. I still had mapping and bluetooth, but no sound.
    • Buy the little trim tabs the you know you'll probably break before you start. I will have to go in and replace a couple when the parts arrive via pony express from California.
    • Dynamat works best when it's warmer - and it doesn't have to be perfect. Clean well before you start. It's a good opportunity to clean up all the crumbs the kids leave behind. Overlap and little gaps are fine. Nobody sees it, except that I posted pictures on the internet.
    • The rollers are great, but the butt end of the handle and my little trim removal tool were perfect little additions for smoothing it out in the little crevices.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
That’s right. I saw you post that pic. I got the same tires about to put on. Decent at hwy speeds?

Did 90 yesterday & it was stable with a little noise.
Frankly I was expecting more noise from what I have read .
Alignment was off from dealership, apparently assembly plant doesn't align with more than a jig.

I assume you're talking insurance costs? I just registered my FJ for 11 months and it was only $79 for the plate tags.

Insurance is a whole different ballgame. I have to have commercial oilfield insurance with 5M liability and I don't pay that much per vehicle. Commercial coverage for my Taco only amounts to about $180/month, about $125/month for the FJ.

That whole back area was maybe three sheets? Amazon had the 36ft2 boxes for $89 Canadian. I bought two at that price. My FJ is being done as well.

I wasn't very impressed with the stamped stainless brackets that Baja Designs supplies with their squadron sport Pods. So I took it upon myself to make some better quality/fitting ones.

Let me know what you guys think.

Used the Taco to run parts for the other project. Taking my '07 FJ and turning it into a true off-road vehicle.

Added a Smittybuilt winch to the ARB bumper that was recently rock guarded. Lifted it 3" with an OME kit and basically rebuilt the front end - lots of parts were corroded. Not bad for a 240k vehicle with no drive train repairs, only maintenance.

Just got my first set of mods done. Icon stage 3 suspension lift, low profile step bars, 17" fuel wheels, BF Goodrich M/T 285/70/17 and 5% window film all the way around! SO far very happy and the ride is a lot smoother when driving off road. Still need to trim a little more on the driver side metal from slight rubbing but I'm happy. Got it done at 4 Wheel Parts in Charlotte, NC. Cost was $8,000 for everything (all parts, rims, tires, shop time, tint, ect) (how bad did I get screwed on price)?

They did put my flag decals on backwards though... Guess the installer wasn't a patriot. LOL

Next I want to get a low profile bumper with winch. Been looking on here for ideas. Thanks for having me and this forum helped me decide what to go with.
