Last time I went to a “Jiffy Lube guy” they couldnt put the OEM skid plates back on right and used only two of the bolts to partially hang it. Did they tell me? No. I found out about it at home for the new rattle I heard under there and discovered they left a oil filter wrench wedged under there. I just take it to Toyota now or DIY.

To anyone who doesn’t do this, try it. It’s invigorating.

    I run a modest 8 minute mile w/scissors and a blowtorch.

If I'm reading this right. Open the overflow hole and fill? Once overflow hole drains close it up. If I open the overflow and it drains a bit then I'm good too?

There’s a temperature requirement for the tranny before you do that, but I don’t have it - someone know this?

Sort of... The following is the procedure assuming you are not using a TechStream tool:

Remove the fill and overflow plugs, place a homemade jumper wire between the two terminals at the DLC3 (the #4 and #13 terminals shown on page 5), start engine and slowly move the shift lever from P to S, then move the shift lever to P.

While observing the D shift indicator on the combination meter, move the shift lever back and forth between N and D at an interval of less than 1.5 seconds for 6 seconds or more.

Check that the D shift indicator comes on for 2 seconds.

Shift into Park and remove the jumper wire from the DCL3.

Allow the engine to idle until the automatic transmission fluid temperature reaches 35 to 45°C (95 to 113°F).

The D shift indicator will come on again when the fluid temperature reaches 35°C (95°F) and will blink when it exceeds 45°C (113°F).
    • If the D shift indicator is not illuminated, idle the engine to warm it up until the D shift indicator illuminates.
    • If the D shift indicator is illuminated, immediately begin to adjust the automatic transmission fluid level.
    • If the D shift indicator is blinking, stop the engine to cool the automatic transmission fluid. Once the automatic transmission fluid temperature drops to the appropriate level, perform the automatic transmission fluid level adjustment procedure again.

Basically, the trans needs to be between 95 and 113 degrees to adjust the fluid level correctly. Be sure to have your fluid ready to pump into the fill hole when the temp is reached. The DLC# terminal is located at the lower edge of the panel under steering wheel. Be careful near the fill hole as the exhaust will be HOT!

Let us know how it goes.

EDIT: the info above was cut & paste from Toyota's AC60F trans fluid adjustment: Doc ID: RM0000013BU0DNX Last Modified: 2-12-2016

If it were me, I'd check and add per the Toyota procedure. My truck was 1/2 - 3/4 quart low from the factory, which by itself wasn't bad, but throw the possibility of another quart on top of that... better safe than sorry :)

I'm sure it is on here somewhere, but if this is happening frequently is there a pic to help avoid this confusion?

Reading these threads about the procedure to check and fill the auto trans is just another reason I am happy to own a manual.

Be darn sure you have a suitable "equivalent". This is the fluid Toyota calls out for usage in the AC60F for my 2016 Taco:

I cut-and-paste straight out of the Toyota fill procedure doc to streamline the instructions and hopefully make it easier to understand. It's actually easy to perform once you absorb the info. The longest part of the procedure is waiting for the trans temp to come up.

well......you both learned something.....no harm no foul......just use the procedure to add until it gushed out and goes to a dribble......you should be alright.....
