Ok I've been told by dealer it cant be done

I would like to add rear lockers to my taco I have a 2018 TRD Sport and was wondering if I can put lockers on the back I know the off road TRD has it but dealer told me it won't work on the sport I'm a ferm believer that where there is a will there's a way

Where there's a thick wallet there's a way. I'd just trade it in on an OR

 

Would I have to replace the rear end to use them or will thay work with oem

To much aftermarket stuff on taco to trade it

 

You can either buy an aftermarket locker and have it installed, or swap in an entire axle assembly out of a TRD OR and then figure out the wiring.

Easiest is just get an ARB air locker installed.

 

Well if Toyota holds with most builders it should have most of the wiring and CPU already there I was thinking of buying a off road that's been totalled and just swapping it out any thoughts

It’s more effort than it’s worth IMO.

 

The wiring is the hardest part of it. A few have done this on their 2nd gens and a few have done 4wd conversions on their 1st gens.

 

I just didn't know if a arb would work with the stock taco rear or would there be a lot of mods to do

It works you just need to run air lines and get a compressor

Incorrect. The housing is different, not to mention two completely different gear assemblies. The rear end in his sport is a 8.4” ring gear (assuming he’s an automatic) and the Offroad is an 8.8” or something like that.

 

It bolts right in. A professional can install it in a day and you’ll be out the door for maybe ~$1,800 by the time you pay for a locker, an air compressor to engage it, and labor.

I would look for a respected off road shop or axle/gear shop local and see what they offer. You could also do some shopping online at places like www.randysworldwide.com/toyota-drivetrain-differential/ I should add there are more than one type of locker diff's. An air or electronic locking diff might not be your best option, take time to determine what you are trying to accomplish and how you plan on using your truck.
