    UPDATE:

I wanted to put this out there for everyone to check when they receive their kits, but it wouldn’t hurt to grab your little crimpers and make sure the crimp is nice and secure. I’ve only had 3 people give me feedback that a couple came loose out of all of the kits I have shipped out, but if you ask me, 3 people is too many for me. Like I have mentioned before, I’m a very honest person. Good or bad. I put it out there and I don’t hide anything from you guys. This is one thing that was mentioned to me today and so I wanted to just give a heads up. Before you give a tug, crimp it first, then tug it. That way, you know for sure :)

Thanks everybody! Also, don’t hesitate to contact me if something seems off. I’m here to help or fix the issue. If need be, I will send you a new one or switch them out. I’m not perfect by any means. I try to be ;) but I also can make mistakes and I own up to them. Anyhow, I just wanted to make this situation known so that others are aware and can make sure to crimp the connection again.

    Tailgate Party On People!!! :bananadance:

    PS

I also forgot to mention, the clear covers that come on the Actuator Connectors themselves, they look similar to what I would call clear Heat Shrink. However, I do not believe that is what it is. When I first started this project 2 1/2 years ago, I tried to shrink them down myself around the Connection more and it didn’t work. So to answer some of your questions if the clear covers shrink down, they do not. Also, you can remove them if you’d like. That is totally up to you. I ended up removing mine early on. I put black heat shrink around mine but I ended up going back and I will explain why. The clear cover is a little thicker. It is looser but when you have it around the connector and you end up pushing it in the other side, it actually fills in the space very nicely. But again, it is up to you and it is your preference. I just wanted to touch on this because that clear cover on the Actuator Connections is how they come from the factory.

One should never judge others by their mistakes, but by how they handle those mistakes.

    You are doing great.

Does the kit come with instructions? I'm sure this has been asked.

Just as an FYI, the tailgate lock mod install is a perfect time to also wire up some LED bed rail lights. The wires mostly follow the same path along the frame of the truck. I installed both of these projects over the weekend and the tailgate actuator and LED light wires were all run within the same wire loom.

Weird huh!? I had to check all of those like 5x the first time I printed them. Haha. They had to go to the processing facility and I guess it’s in LA. Really weird to me

Took me 3 hours but I had an issue with the actuator top and the rod connecting them.

If I had to do it again it would take me about an hour

    Hope that helps

question: what size and length screw did you use to mount the actuator?

I mounted the actuator to the square tubing with a nuts and bolts. I don't remember the size but it was just big enough to pass through the holes in the actuator. Holding the nut inside of the tube was a little bit of a pain but not too bad. Also put some locktite on the bolts. I then attached the the whole assembly to the tailgate using sheet metal screws. I could have used long bolts to go through the whole thing but it would have been hard to hold it all together with the actuator and the tubing with rubber on both sides. Plus I already had the other hardware....
