Rust after 5 months

I’ve seen something like that before on one of my white trucks; might be what happened to yours too. Mine was caused by one of my drivers carelessly using an angle grinder on some steel beside the truck and the little metal filings melted into the paint and then rusted a week or so later. It also melted some bits into the side door glass.
I’d go to the dealer and try and get it warrantied if I were you.

 

Exactly this. Unless your truck is in Antarctica thousands of miles from any industry, you WILL have rail dust in your paint.

Every car gets it, it's just more noticeable on light colors. Clay bar and iron remover will get rid of it. You will need to repeat after a while, as it will come back.

The carpro stuff works great, my truck is black so you don't really see these spots but they are there none the less. It does smell terrible tho hahaha

 

Some of that might be into the color.
Any magic spray wont prevent it from rusting under the clear.
We have repainted panels because of this.
Remember , once you muck with it the playing field changes.
Let them see it at it’s worse

 

I'm on board with the Dealer first guys. Under warranty?, don't mess with it, let them deal with it. That's bad, I had a seventeen year old truck that looked a lot better then that.

 

Pretty common on any white vehicle, just finished cleaning it up on my dads white Nissan, clay bar and seal it up.

 

I am shocked at all the " pretty common on on white vehicle" comments. What kind of toxic waste dumps do you guys live in? I have had three white trucks. Never had rust impinged in the paint. If your enrollment does that to paint you may want to consider lung and skin screenings. L

 

These spots are not IN the Paint. They are ON the paint.

 

Looks just like the white '16 GTI I had. It's very likely environmental as others have said. Try the Iron-X iron remover, then clay bar.

This stuff worked great on my white truck. After I used it i clay barred it and then waxed. I still get little spots here and there but with it sealed from the wax it comes right off with regular washes.

 

How did it get from Texas to distributor?

This is surface contamination rusting. It’s not coming through from underneath. This happens all the time at the shipyard near where I live. Sandblasting residue gets swept up in the wind and lands on cars causing weird rust spots.

Your truck has galvanized metal panels. You could take the paint off and it still wouldn’t rust.

 

We’ve had a chemical fire burning for a week here in Texas.

I use meguiars all wheel cleaner for rail dust it works great.

 

Don’t go to the dealer... they will buff and use who knows what on your paint to scrub this off. Go to Walmart, buy a $20 merquires or mother’s claybar kit, and clay the rust off. It’ll take you an hour to do it, and it’ll be done right. Going to the dealer will take longer, mess with your paint, and you’ll live with that for the whole time you own the truck.

 

Maybe he lives in Texas or maybe his is a burrito tacoma like mine (made in baja) and he lives in ca. I see the burrito tacos all the time on the 5 freeway here in socal crossing the border

 

I washed my truck for the first time yesterday after buying my ‘19 back in October. It is cement. I noticed this exact same thing all over my truck. I took clay bar and did my entire truck and the rust spots went away and then I sealed it. Didn’t know this was common at all. Glad I saw this thread today

 

Just saying, he doesn't know. Most vehicles leave the plant on trains. Why? The Texas plant puts out a Tacoma every four minutes. That's 360 Tacos a day. One train or around 50 18 wheelers headed to a distributor.

I wouldn't be surprised if the dealer tells you to kick rocks. From your pictures, it appears to be oxidation, and above the clear. Almost certainly from environmental conditions.

Have you had the truck detailed? Take a clay bar to it and see if you can start pulling the contaminates off the clear.
