Grill question

Hello, I am new to this form as of 10 minutes ago. I have a 07 SR5 4x4 with a 3 inch lift and MBRP dual exhaust. I have a question about grills. My taco has the chrome grill and i was wondering what i have to do to go about procuring or painting mine to match the paint (which is silver) of my taco. sorry if this is a stupid question. Thanks

From my experience with painting my grill I found that it's difficult to find the exact color match. I have an '06 Super White, so I looked up the exact color code, painted it up and it still wasn't a perfect match! I'm not sure exactly about silver but be careful when you purchase your product. I found that the best way is to sand it down and put at least 3 coast of plastic primer. Once that dries, apply mulitple light coats of paint to ensure that it dries evenly. Make sure you put a few layers of clear coat on top of that to prevent chipping. There are a ton of threads on this site on the specifics of painting grills, badges etc. I hope this was helpful!

 

I have a '07 super white and am attempting to paint the grille also. I ordered from Paintscratch.com (some people on here recommended the site). Where did you get your paint from, the stuff that didn't match correctly. Hopefully I won't have the same trouble you did.

 

I actually bought my paint from an Autozone. They had a book that had all of the color codes for Toyota sorted by year. It said that an '06 super white Tacoma was color code 040. I found out that since I added a clear coat on top of that it turned the paint a shade darker. So if you end up doing that use a rubbing compound to bring out the shine followed by a wax sealer. I have to completely re-do my entire grill!

 

Painting is the cheapest option, but I was lazy on my 08 and drop $230 at the dealer for a factory color matched one... Takes all of about 2min top to swap it out.

 

Damn that's quite a price for a piece of plastic! Dealerships always find a way to make a ridiculous profit.
